Fascists aren't going away anytime soon it seems:

Except, if you look at the actual facts on the economy over the last 40 years, Republicans have been historically shite. It's almost like all the sheep have been convinced by the wolves that they aren't going to eat them this time... right before they eat them.

It’s a fake Bezos poll.

All sounds a bit 'authoritarian'.

Imagine forcing journalists to only to report what you want them to report?

They can just report from outside, they can’t stop them (at the moment) ding that, it just means they won’t have access to the press pack, you could have two reporters one who signs up and one who doesnt from the same paper, that lets them do both things.

It's possible, but there will be a tight grip, and leakers will be relentlessly hunted down. It's how authoritarian regimes operate.

Saw a headline about Ted Cruz criticising the FCC the other day for the way they got Jimmy Kimmel sacked. Finally, a Republican politician speaking out about gross misuse of power, I thought. Read it a bit further, and it turns out the only objection he has is that it will set a precedent and the Democrats might use it to silence the right when they get in. In other words, he's more concerned with a hypothetical and entirely imaginary future authoritarian government than the one currently running the country. I mean I know all politicians are hypocrites to a degree, but this takes it to an entirely new level.

Company and union both put out a “Stay off social media” message as doxxers seek to “cancel people and put your employment at risk.” Already had one union official from LA suspended for speaking out against a guy who said black pilots make him wonder if they’re actually qualified!

JD Vance said to “call out” anyone you see criticizing Kirk or his message, and then “calling their employers!”

That’s the fucking VPOTUS, who swore to uphold the Constitution!!

Looks like Kimmel is suing for $1Bn!!
Who is he suing ?

Disney, which owns ABC, and the company which has violated his contract.

I doubt he’ll have trouble finding a few pro bono 1A lawyers to represent him…or more egregious non-responses on ABC and their other properties.

Media in America is increasingly owned by a decreasing smaller number of (mainly billionaire conservative, if not right wing) individuals behind corporate behemoths.

When two of them wanted to merge (Paramount and Skydance), Trump made it clear how he felt about CBS’s Colbert (owned by Paramount). Within days, he was told his contract was not being renewed, even though he had the best ratings in late-night. Because it was a simple non-renewal, there was no recourse, even though the timing was, at best, coincidental.

Fast forward to this week, and two massive regional affiliate conglomerates are desiring to merge. Again, they’re owned by conservative billionaires. Again, Trump had said “Kimmel is next.”

The Chairman of the FCC went on a podcast and spoke out about some of what these stations were broadcasting (Jimmy Kimmel Live!) and that their licenses, not just their merger, might be at risk, but “they can do it the easy way or the hard way!”

Disney chose the easy way, because the hard way could have been no merger or a caveat that they drop Disney as a condition of approval!

The dumb thing is that his contract was about to expire anyway. The more salient point is this “flex” is a message to EVERYONE that if the likes of Paramount and Disney can be strong armed by Trump, through his FCC Chairman, then ANYONE can be targeted and forced into almost anything!

Reichstag Decree rules apply.

I decided to do something about the Jimmy Kimmel cancellation.

It turns out that EPSN+ is owned by Disney - so I cancelled my ESPN+ subscription. A small matter, but if enough consumers take similar action, Disney may come to rue their actions.
Thank you!

Bundle: CANCELLED!

In my feedback, I told them exactly why I was canceling and that Iger (a prominent American Jew) should know better than to bow to 1930s style authoritarianism for lucre.

THIS - at the moment they are on a power trip - drunk on what they can do hang the consequences. At some stage its going to dawn on some of them that this will not persist forever and things will be changing at which point there will be a lot of tracks being covered, a lot of internal squabbling and finger pointing

There seems to a push online for others to do so.

To be fair that's the only way to make these companies listen.

Cancelled my Disney plus subscription. First time I have ever cancelled anything for political reasons.
