Ricky Hatton RIP

I too remember how that fight was judged and it really was frustrating to watch.
In hindsight, he wasn’t fit to lace up his gloves.
Who wasn't? I hope you mean Cortez? Or are you saying undefeated RH wasn't fit to lace his gloves? I repeat...the undefeated RH.

That's why it was billed as "Undefeated" on the card.

He got Eubank to boil himself down to a skeleton and wanted to sneak a Roided up Benn into the ring against him to take his head off. the actions of a **** in my mind wouldn’t you say?

Worth watching the match room documentary on Netflix if you want to get a better handle of Eddie Hearn. Won't post anything more here, because this is about the Hitman. No doubts Ricky is a legend.

Eubank Jr’s weight in his previous 4 fights to Benn were:

vs Kamil Szeremeta = 159.3/4lbs
vs Liam Smith = 159.1/4lbs
vs Liam Smith = 159lbs
vs Liam Williams = 160lbs

Alot less than what he was allowed under the first Benn match, where he was allowed to rehydrate upto 170 on fight night.

So no. Eubank is a known bull shitter who still beat Benn (who weighed under 157 pounds for the fight)

Benn was cleared of all allegations btw
wrong. what your failing to understand those weights we’re the 160lbs Middleweight or under which is what he was mandated to weight in at, but he wasn’t allowed to rehydrate above 170lbs post weigh-in, Eubank would normally be allowed to rehydrate upto a stone or more post weigh in he would be walking around at 177-180 but he wasn’t allowed FORCED to not fill out to whatever he normally could he was restricted to 10lbs above weigh in weight & that’s what the rehydration clause was put in for it’s not what you weigh in at because no boxer fights at his weigh-in weight he’s at that weight on the scales & immediately rehydrated to normally 20lbs above come fight night he wasn’t allowed to do that so your figures are irrelevant, also Benn was cleared to fight, he wasn’t cleared of wrongdoing, the case was held in private with no EXPLANATION given for the Peds in his system or EXPLANATION for HOW they got there. so your wrong on both counts, don’t get me Wrong, Eddies funny & a great promotor but he’s still a C*** like all promotors are, but he’s just been found out publicly, but don’t let the eddie fandom cloud your judgement eh

But rehydration for the Benn fight was limited to 10lbs on the morning of the fight. He wasn't limited in his rehydration for the other fights you listed.

As a former boxer, I'll tell you that making weight is hard..but not being able to rehydrate fully is the real killer. That's the exact reason boxing moved the weigh ins to the day before. It used to be the same day but the inability to rehydrate was too dangerous.

Limiting rehydration is still dangerous, from my experience. It's almost as bad as the old same day weigh ins. And to be fair to Eubank on this one, he's getting older and making the weight and tough rehydration clauses only get harder and harder with each fight.

A rehydration clause like he had for the Benn fight is so hard because you've dried your body out to make weight and then you've got to limit your water intake for the next 24 hours for the rehydration clause weigh in, leaving you still pretty much dehydrated for another day, until fight day. It's horrible.

I can only assume you've never boxed or been around boxing if you compare his Benn fight to those others you listed, which had no rehydration clause and he could just rehydrate straight away after stepping off the scales.

Anyway let's not deviate too much from the legend that is Hatton

so your aware he was still the same weight with the rehydration in these fights?

Yes he had more of an ability to rehydrate more in the other 4 fights previous to Benn, but the weights after rehydration were still the same.

Figures are not irrelevant, they are factually correct.

Benn had his suspension removed, but was reinstated on BBoC appeal.

Benn was cleared by an independant Anti Doping panel who found there wasn't enough evidence presentented that he had doped.

Both UKAD & BBoC didnt follow up with an appeal on a private matter of a boxer.

Yep, all promotors are twats, but as a fight going fan. Eddie Hearn and Matchroom have been the best promoters in a long time here in the UK, from the fight night experience to whats seen on tv.

Your assumptions are massively wrong then aren't they, I've been in and out of boxing alot in my adult life, whether its just training in the boxing gym, to the occasional fight night.

Now I've gone back to boxinh after spending a fair few years away and enjoying helping out.

Information I posted to the other poster about the other Eubank fights, he was still weighing the same weight on fight day like he did against Benn even if the rehydration clause is dangerous for him.

Rather both fight other people, and I agree this needs turning bck in to a thread about the hitman rather than boxing debate

Whilst I agree, you only have to look at the way the fight was refereed.
It was a joke. Ricky needed to get up close and smother Mayweather, but every time he got in that position Cortez intervened.
Hatton's corner could see what was happening.

Would Ricky have won the fight had he been allowed to fight his own fight? Probably not. But he'd have stood a much better chance.
Mayweather was class but he was treated like an endangered species by the refs.
Mayweather wore a rags top at the Manchester leg of the promotional tour.
Now we know why the ref was on his side.
Rags n refs eh?

Watched the kostya tszyu & Mayweather fights last night as well as a sit down interview he did a few years ago after retiring.

Ref in the Mayweather fight still annoys me.

RIP Hitman
I watched the Thaxton fight last night, if the ref in that had reffed the Floyd fight Ricky’s legend might have been greater than it already is

Lucky enough to be at this fight.Atmosphere was incredible.. The ref did spoil it and defo helped Mayweather

Only just got round to reading this thread...I was away on the weekend it happened and wanted to give it the time he deserved which I've finally found today.

So sad, I only met Ricky a couple of times, Townley & Turk's head the latter on a quiet night and we chatted a little buying a pint for each other. Top bloke.

Written with a little tear in my eye.

This was a wonderful write up from Tris Dixon.
