Premier League Games | 20/21 Sept '25

The PL is going to completely ruin its product with stupid VAR decisions like that. An absolute screamer of a strike that could be marketed all over the world. But ruled out because of a pathetic bit of contact.

Is ‘Sway’/‘Marimba Rhythm’ the new chosen song that about 15 of the 20 PL clubs will all sing this season?

Brentford need some different ideas in midfield here. How’s the only change so far been the striker?

The amount of people that don't know the rules, technology is staggering.

I spent ages last season trying to explain to someone that you can't be offside if the ball is played backwards!!!
Hope you didn’t spend too long explaining it, given that you can certainly be offside if the ball is played backwards…

Erm, what?

Maybe you meant cant be offside if you are behind the ball, but you can definitely be offside from a ball that's played backwards!!

Can you give me an example so I can get my head around this please. Too much for my brain.
The key is the direction of the ball doesn’t actually matter. It’s either having 2 players between the attacker and the goal or, the attacker being behind the ball.

Imagine Erling is stood on the goal line, in the middle of the goal. Foden intercepts a pass from the keeper, then runs at the keeper, goes round him and gets to the by line. He then crosses the ball, backwards, a couple of yards from goal. Erling moves backwards 2 yards, gets the ball and scores. No goal as he’s offside.
Same scenario, but Erling is on the penalty spot. Not offside, goal given.

Got it, cheers. The only example I could think of was when Milner played it backwards to Sane in the second leg of the CL and the ref gave offside. Mind you, Milner was playing for liverpool at the time.

Interesting to see Newcastles lineup today given they had the same turn around of games as us. They've rotated heavily even seemingly changing formation to allow for the rotation.

I believe they got a bit of a run around against Barcelona so therefore extended a lot of energy. We had an easier game and against ten men for the majority of it. We can rotate at Huddersfield.

What Martinez did there is not allowed and should have been an indirect free kick to Sunderland in the box.

Martinez released the ball then and once a keeper has done that he’s not allowed to touch it again with any part of his arms/hand, yet he re-gathered the ball in his hands after releasing it.
