Premier League Games | 20/21 Sept '25

One day someone is going to make themselves very popular by smacking Matty Cash in the face.

All the games yesterday were average at best bar Fulham v Brentford.
Symptom of how much football everyone has to play these days.

A decade ago, players were saying there were too many games, the whole sport was saying that international friendlies were a waste of time and energy… so what FIFA/UEFA decided to do is create a new tournament (Nations League), add another international break to the season (only ever used to be two before Christmas and two after, during the season, now there’s three before Christmas), they expanded the World Cup, they put a World Cup in the Winter, they expanded the Euros, AfCON is still played every two years, they’ve expanded the Champions League, they’ve expanded the Europa League, they’ve created a new competition in the Europa Conference (meaning smaller in depth of quality squads are tested greatly with more games), they’ve created a new Club World Cup.

Teams have only just started their season, many won’t have built any flow or consistency yet, but had to go off on international duty a few weeks ago and there’s another in a few weeks.

Seasons finish in June or July most years yet start up again in August. That’s quite frankly ridiculous.

It’s all too much. It’s quite apparent that players are not playing with free flowing energy from week-to-week and injury occurrence has increased this decade. As a result, managers are making players take an absolute age to do anything in the game: goal kicks, corner kicks and free kicks are taking as long as a minute and more to be taken these days, and I reckon that’s down to having as little playing time as possible to avoid players getting injured.

100% in agreement, it is making football boring to watch.

Great post, absolutely spot on. We have also never had so many live games on TV and the majority are as boring as fuck due to the points you have made.
