Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

In true happy clapper fashion, last Sunday morning would have taken a derby win, a CL win and a point at the Emirates, however in my usual Reverend Otto Witt (you're all going to die) mode - that highlighted all our issues and shortcomings, including Pep currently.
Doing the basics badly and players not stepping up.

This further cements Pep’s reputation as the greatest manager of all time. He’s able to adjust and evolve. I think the other Pep and Kolo are probably helping Pep adjust as well, and I don’t think he wants to play like that but sometimes you have to adapt. I have always said, even up to two years ago, that in those games where teams, would just park the bus against us, (including Arsenal) that it would be better suited for Erling and our fast players to play more on the counter. Sit back little and use Erlings pace and punish teams. We use to play like that in the Sterling and Sane era.

This game showed that we have a solid defensive spine especially on set pieces where we struggled for years, especially last year. I would add Donnaruma is a big contributing factor in that as well. And on that note, while everyone wants to focus on our low block, park the bus tactics let’s talk about Arsenal’s stoke city long throw in, set piece tactics. Let’s have a towel on the side, Rory Delap style. Defense which ultimately won us titles in previous years was the most important thing we had to correct from last year and. I think this game showed we have take huge step in the right direction.

Statistically speaking...

Last season:
Wolves (A) 1-2 Win
Spurs (H) 0-4 Loss
Brighton (A) 2-1 Loss
United (H) 1-2 Loss
Arsenal (A) 5-1 Loss

Won 1, Drawn 0, Lost 4, 3 Points, Scored 5, Conceded 14, GD -9

This season:

Wolves (A) 0-4 Win
Spurs (H) 0-2 Loss
Brighton (A) 2-1 Loss
United (H) 3-0 Win
Arsenal (A) 1-1 Draw

Won 2, Drawn 1, Lost 2, 7 Points, Scored 9, Conceded 5, GD +4

Last season overall we dropped 43 points across 17 matches leaving us on 71 points. In 4 of those matches so far this season, we are 4 points better off (1 point per game).

If we improve across the games we dropped points in at that rate all season, and we win the same games we won last season, then we would be 17 points better off come May. Leaving us on 88 points.

Last season that would have won us the league.

That's progress.

Good result in the grand scheme of things. Horrible to concede late on so feels a bit like a loss, like equalising at home last season felt like a win.
Point away at Stoke -sorry- arsenal is always a good result.
Keeps the momentum going into the next few weeks,

Unlucky. Just cant play that high line when no Khusanov, there's nobody else quick enough. Why we were pushing forward at that point I dont know but shows we can mix it up, sort of performance that we may need in Champs League.
High line isn’t that bad if the keeper just stays put

Great defensive display considering how we conceded last season from every attack
A points ok against these fuckers.
I’m torn on the erling sub think he gave them something to worry about, once he was subbed this allowed all 12 of arsenals players to camp in our half.
Special mention to captain black running 15 yards out of his tech area to get the ball and sped up the throw in, again not mentioned.

After that I think we will win the champions League. A team that can defend, a top keeper and lots of flair players to come back.

But apart from that…

Southampton have done it a couple of times
I'm intrigued - when? :-)

EDIT: - just re read yours . You mean the parking the bus, not the breakaway goal :-l

EDIT 2 : no, I'm not sure - which did you mean?

Arsenal have spent over a £billion since captain black became their manager and have won fuck all..

In the meantime, we've won a bit of stuff..

Let them fire up their open top bus to celebrate their draw against us today..

Sad fucks..!

You'd rather us gone for it and lost?! You're defiantly on the wined up. Lads can't do right for doing wrong on here at times.
I've never been one to criticise us on here and regularly call out those who have, but I'll say it again, it's not our game. It's not how we have won 6 titles under Pep, or the treble, the Cl and everything else.

It might help you avoid relegation picking up the odd point here and there but teams who park the bus rarely manage to hang on, we've seen it time and time again and as I said elsewhere we were slating Arsenal for their lack of ambition after they tried and failed to do the exact same thing.

We have the world's best striker ever on the park, he's already scored then we decide to hang on for an hour and a half? Give me a break. They were always going to score, it was a case of when and how many. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with a point at Arsenal but not like that.

After all that we get hit with a simple ball over the top again, then again if haaland had given Phil a tap in it could have been so different
Agreed. We should have tried to hit them on the break more often instead of trying to hang on. I think we would have been more likely to have been celebrating a win now after going in front early.
