Geoffrey is spot on about Tuffers and batting and for me Tuffers being the clown and making the “Batting expert” ruins it for me! Tuffers was a good spinner for England but anything else in the team utter useless!
One thing he and Geoffrey had in common….

Like Tuffers said, Bowlers are not in the team for making runs, Bowlers getting runs are a bonus for the team
I could listen to Boycott all day and he speaks the truth, Sometimes the truth hurts and people don't like it

The only thing is he's a rag fan, but everybody has a weakness

Tuffers is the ‘Micah Richards’ of cricket……

RIP Dickie Brid. Had a great innings 92.

My best memory of him was in 1995. I was at Old Trafford for England vs West Indies when Sun stopped play.

Bird walked up to the box where the window was open and the light was bouncing onto the wicket.

Bird was shouting for about 2 minutes "Shut that bloody window!!" Everybody was pissing themselves laughing! Great character.

Our Ashes squad has been announced:

England's Ashes squad: Ben Stokes (captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook (vice-captain), Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Josh Tongue, Mark Wood.

Will Jacks is the surprise inclusion, getting the nod over Rehan Ahmed and Liam Dawson as our back-up spinner all-rounder. Thankfully, Jamie Overton was omitted.

He’s retired from test cricket.

It’s a very small squad. Guessing it will be added to as necessary.

Jamie Overton retired(!) after his two test matches!

Interesting that he's opted for Jacks, not sure if he's good enough as a spinner to be the main option but perhaps he doesn't feel like Bashir will be ready and Jacks certainly helps boost the batting.

Maybe not a surprise that Woakes has been left out due to injury/his previous form in Australia, but I felt like Woakes was their go to man to open the bowling in the post Anderson/Broad era - I felt like they may have brought back Curran if Woakes wasn't to make it - maybe that's curtains for Woakes England career.

Brook being the VC to me suggests that they're probably going to go with Bethall over Pope, which I know many have pushed but I'm not sure personally.

Archer, Atkinson and Wood being fit is going to be key if we're to win out there. I don't think we will, but I don't think it'll be the hammerings we've had in our last 3 visits.

Assuming everyone is fit, I think our team for the first test will be:

Crawley
Duckett
Pope/Bethell
Root
Brook
Stokes (C)
J Smith (WK)
Carse/Bashir
Atkinson
Archer
Wood/Tongue

Do any of the slower seamers have the capacity to bowl 20 overs a day?

Assuming Wood/Archer aren't likely to bowl more than 15 each, Bashir and the other two seamers need to bowl an average of 20*.

*I realise the idea that any day of the Ashes is going to feature 90 overs is probably a bad premise.

Ahmed averaging over 50 with the bat this season (16 FC innings) and took 23 wickets at 19 (13 FC innings).
Will Jacks averaging 38 with the bat, (5 FC innings) and took 5 wickets at 39!

Of course, one plays for Surrey and one doesn’t…
