Arsenal thread | 2025/26

I think scoring so late when it looked like we were done and dusted was why the reaction was so jubilant. It's no different to when Stones scored in injury time against us at the Etihad - you get a point you didn't expect against a rival. It might end up being a vital point in the end.

What I don't get is the noise around Dippers scoring at the death against Burnley, Newcastle etc and that's the 'mark of champions' but we get a last minute equaliser against one of the best teams in Europe and it's 'Arsenal go all giddy'. At the end of the day you try to win matches. If you can't win then don't lose. Would I have been happy with 1-1 at the start of the match? Probably not. Would I have bitten your hand off for 1-1 at 90 minutes? Absolutely.
The equalising goal just shows how mentally fooked up regarding your club :) i put money if they had have scored that late on say against a Brighton do you think they would have reacted the same way ???

I mean they need to win games if there going for the title not going over the top yet again when they get a result against you lot

Maybe but City to be fair have gone on to win thing have your lot really ??????
What about the over top reacton last season ??
How did that end up panning out ????
Maybe if they turned up won the game and simply went down the tunnel you may actually do something of note instead of 2nd place year after year ..............its just the same every season and he never learns that.

This.

They celebrated yesterday like they'd grabbed three points - and we're still in September! Last few games of the season, fair enough, most clubs would, but this early in the season?

I have to say I have not been impressed by Arsenal at all since Lego took over, not once. There have been one or two occasions when I've thought they looked like a force to be reckoned with, but then he makes one of his bizarre substitutions and you're thinking, WTF?
But overall the main reason I am not impressed is because of his overwhelming negativity: he's way too cautious to be a winner. Winning a few cup ties can get you a trophy, yes: but a long, drawn-out slog to get as many points on the board as you can within the nine months or so of the season is a very different and somewhat intimidating prospect.

He spent a lot of time under Pep but you wouldn't know it when you see some of Arsenal's performances over the last few seasons: dull, negative and predictable are the words that spring to mind.

I thought Arsenal played okay but not well. Both teams created very little through either tactic deployed which meant is was an immediately forgettable game for anyone other than City+Arse fans. Shown with the xG being below 1 for both teams.

Arsenal lacked one-twos in and around the box to up chance creation. Their movement was quite poor as well. So it was all relying on crosses and set pieces apart from the goal they scored and one chance from Madueke.

Arsenal have relied heavily on set piece goals for several seasons , especially from corners . They often play down the flanks not though the centre and are more than happy with a corner as Rice and Saka are lethal on corners . With GG in goal I'd argue we broke their favourite go to Get Out of Goal Free card and they were deflated .

Firstly, the key difference is Liverpool won their games. A last minute equaliser is always going to be celebrated, but a last minute winner is better! Also, we're not the City of old and you will have seen on here the number of people expecting a loss. That's not us being doom and gloom, that's based on the reality of where we are with our transition. We can't dominate teams, we've got some injuries and we're lacking fitness still. Couple that with the fact we played Thursday and you should have been winning the game.

What I would also say is, don't worry so much about the mentality bollocks. Leicester won the league without even dreaming of it at the start of the season. Your mentality has been questioned and Arteta has seemed to allow it to become more of a thing than it needed to be. All your players need to do is turn up and win games. All your manager has to do is pick the best players and tactics to win games. It's not any more complicated than that. We had won one trophy in 35 years before we wrestled the title from the rags in 2012. If you want to win the title, go and win it! The rest is just noise.

Madueke has done his ACL apparently.

Shame for them. Unfortunate.

That's a big blow, he's been in great form. I never really rated him but he's looked good this season. They've still got good options but disappointing for him (and England if anyone cares). I'd personally much prefer Arsenal to win the league than the dippers.

The mentality is a big factor for them, arteta has instilled a philosophy of playing not to lose rather than to win and that is a recipe for disaster.

I agree 100%. First time I've really watched them this season, I obviously thought with such a good squad they must be like us of 4/5 years ago. But there was very little creativity and once we had the measure of their set pieces, I knew it would need to be an inspired move for them to score. They are good defensively, but if they are supposedly a top team at the zenith of their ability to win games, then it's a no from me. I hate the Dippers, by goodness I do and every time you see them I expect them to score. But this lot, no chance unless its a set piece.

Considering we had two days less rest, are beset by injury - and once again one of their thugs does for one of ours ( Khus hope he's ok) and they have a better squad, they were at hone, I thought we got the moral victory. Not that Sly or the media portray it that way.

If they want to win games, Arteta needs to play attacking footy - first half team set up of theirs, you wouldn't be mistaken if you thought they were the away team come to play for a draw.

I think we are in their heads like the Dips away are in ours!!

A simple question to all City fans. If we had played Liverpool at Anfield in the same set of circumstances yesterday with our game on thursday we would have lost its that simple.

That's the difference with what makes Champions. Too often yesterday Arsenal players got needlessly involved in stuff, seperate your emotions and you might just might cross the line. Gabriel couldn't shut the fuck up at the referee, Trossard getting dragged into it with Silva which was intentional and he fell for it. Arteta running up and down the line, like a pheasant on a country lane not knowing which way to avoid the oncoming car. The fans screaming and whingeing for everything like it was the final deciding game of a season and everytime I watch them they sound the same. Too much emotion and energy spent and not channelled. It's all there for them to grab but they can't afford many more slip ups as we know and we are only 5 games in.

Anyone but the dippers please.
Seeing Spitty in the studio acting like they've won 5 in a row or something these days makes me want to puke.
Hate the scummy ****(s)

I can’t really argue with any of that.

They are so negative. Their whole setup is designed to prevent defeat, rather than actually take a gamble and go for the win.

As someone said, possibly in the post-match thread, it’s almost impossible to believe that Lego head was Pep's assistant; he is the complete opposite in his attitude and tactics.

Hope for a speedy recovery for Madueke if it is an ACL. Started really well for them. I dont think he's a massive loss for them, they've got Saka ahead of him anyway but he is a loss all the same. Stood a very good chance of being in the world cup squad too which is now surely over. Can't for the life of me pinpoint a potential cause of it, dont remember him even going down and he carried on until halftime.

Only thing I disagree with is the crowd moaning for everything. Not specific to Arsenal but i firmly believe that helps. refs do get swayed by the crowd even if they try not to be if they're constantly acting like they've been on the wrong end of a huge injustice. You can't do it all the time, but for big games it does help.

Probably not. We manage to lose there however much rest we’ve had!
Exactly we could put our best 11 out and we often have done and come away with nothing. They have got into Peps head in the past despite beating them to the title but Arsenal despite beating us in some games seems more of a wind up for us in recent seasons and the result on the day has no bearing on the title against them. We certainly don't fear or worry about them like we did against Liverpool.
