EFL play-offs could move from 4 teams to 6

The play-off positions would be from 3rd to 8th.

the idea for Championship teams would be for two "eliminator" matches to decide the final four play-off teams: those teams that finish third and fourth in the Championship would automatically qualify for the play-off semi-finals, which would follow the same format as is currently in operation - two-leg ties to decide the Wembley finalists.
But those teams who finish fifth to eighth in the table would play each other in a one-off tie at the home of the higher-ranked club, to decide which two teams would go forward to the play-off semi-finals.

I've got an idea. Have a play off where every team plays every other team once at home and once away from home. Whoever wins that is the league winner, and whoever finishes in the relegation positions goes down a division, and whoever finishes in a promotion position gets promoted. This way would make it impossible for the eighth best team to gain promotion at the expense of the fourth best team.

I can't imagine why nobody has thought of this before. Maybe I should patent it.

Greed is killing the game here is another example.
Whilst unlikely, the team that finished 8th and wins at Wembley, is not going to light up the Premier League, but no one cares, the financial reward will more than make up for it.

Total joke.
American owners attempting to move our game towards the MLS model...remember when no relegation was mooted a few years ago

Absolute bollocks. So if you finish 8th you could get promoted? Utter fucking wank

I'm surprised the pl title isn't decide by play off's from the first 4

Hmmm wonder if they’ll try something like this eventually in the premier league but for the champions league places ..
You mean sort of like ergh they do in America with most of their sport?

Nah, it would never happen, I mean most of the PL clubs would have to have American owners and then they would have to have a vote and th........

Oh fuck.

All it needs is one game at Wembley between 18th in the PL versus 3rd in the Championship.
Where's the money in that sensible suggestion ?

Didn't Swales propose something like bottom 6 of the PL play a relegation play off only to realise we were likely to be one of those clubs ?
I'm sure it was suggested

It actually wouldn't surprise me if that was put on the table at some stage; top 6 Premier League teams go into a playoff, top 4 in the semi's, 5th and 6th in a quarter final, with a final at Wembley to decide who the Premier League winner is, similar to what they have in some other leagues. Some kind of mad cap idea to make it more competitive and unpredictable.
