The Album Review Club - Week #191 (page 1286) - Harlequin Dream - Boy & Bear

Doubt they are the kind of place that do Bucky on tap. He'll be on the san pellegrino pomegranate.

Something really exciting about impromptu gigs though. I'm all for it.

Don't think I've ever been anywhere that had Coatbridge table wine on tap so part of me assumed that's a joke but I suspect i'm very wrong about that. If they let punters guzzle direct from the tap it probably reduces the level of glassing so that's a plus.

Yeah agree. I'm looking to see if it's possible to get to one of their gigs at the moment, caring duties make it a bit tricky but I keep promising myself I'll get out to more live music.

I have struggled to get new music to suit my taste for a few years now.Read an article about the release of Wolf of St Elmore by The Slow Motion Cowboys an Americana band that going by the review sounded right up my street.
Happily it was and an release from 2025 has been getting played non stop throughout the Summer.
It has been a good year for me album wise, some old favourites have released great albums, with Jeff Tweedy got an album out on Friday and a couple of new artists which I have enjoyed but the Slow Motion Cowboys being my favourite of the new artists to me in 2025 hence my pick.
A wee change nominating a new album but hope you enjoy it.
Never heard of them, but after first 5 tracks right up my street.

Sounds like it Should be a joke, but it isn't, quite an en vogue thing actually!

I've got a barrage of gigs coming up. Mid sept to mid dec is one hectic run usually, once the summer festivals pass and pre christmas.

Seems I don't mind a bit of country. If you count Harvest era Neil Young and then the Rose City Band as country. This seems to have a similar vibe, very easily listenable.

Won't lie, I'll be amazed if I manage 3 rounds of this.

Fully recognise there is a lot to like there, and it is 100% style vs substance I admit, but man I really struggle with the drawl, at any given length. Both vocal and instrumental.

Wow, this band is actually playing in a Pub i go to up my road.. tonight ... WTF
I'm just glad you are caught up on all your back music listening here to be current to even make this connection, and I see you later did get tickets.

Hope you are rewarded tonight like I was for Father John Misty live Monday night, as I was trying to cover all my bases before yesterday's once-predicted Rapture (though I was NOT drinking 0%). If you are going to go out, let it be to still be under the glow of the live music spell.

I've only ever had it once and if I'm being honest didn't think it was that bad, though as I child I was prone to drink Veno's Cough Medicine when no one was looking, so it's hardly a ringing endorsement.

Only tickets I have for anything at the moment are for Good Health Good Wealth in November but I'm not even sure about them. Have in principle persuaded Mrs Spires to spend a few nights at next years Celtic Connections, but whether she jumps ship when the full schedule lands in two or three weeks time remains to be seen!

I do know Lucinda Williams is meant to be coming this year (well technically it is the next year, but you know what I mean). The Americana section has been growing every year, with bigger acts joining. Not something I'd see but I know she was well recieved here. Imagine a lot of the usual suspects will be back, but will review fully once all published. Next up for me is All Them Witches in a couple weeks.

I have English Teacher coming up in November. Was contemplating going to see Titanic at the White Hotel in Salford because I have wanted to see a gig there for a while - they are there in October. Titanic supported BCNR recently and noisy folk cello industrial metal jazz might be my new favourite genre
