That school definitely runs school trips to the football and they are not cheap but if you're paying up to £20k per annum for education anyway I guess for some a few hundred quid is neither here nor there. My guess is it's legit, they are getting them through legit channels and if that is the case it simply shows that the club is more interested in profiteering than it's commitment to the old fan base but we know that anyway.

Beyond City it's just a sad reminder of where football has moved to, what was once an accessible working class pastime and passion is now a hugely valuable global IP that is increasingly targeted at a different audience.
 
I have mixed feelings on this to be honest. Unfortunately football has become a visitor attraction at the major clubs and plenty of people are willing to pay well over the going rate to see a game, maybe as a one-off treat. Some people are happy to do that every week in the Tunnel Club etc. and it’s a good revenue stream for the club.

Where I do have a problem is putting these large groups in the cheaper areas where they should be kept for local families and only City fans. If the club are struggling to sell these seats (e.g. due to poor sightlines, exposure to bad weather) then the season ticket and matchday prices need dropping in there.
 
No problem with this but it would surely suit both City and the schools price wise to come to "lesser" games ,it's ridiculous city are letting them have Cat A match tickets

Liverpool though? Bournemouth on a Sunday afternoon or Brighton on a Wednesday evening. There’ll be lots of spaces in the away end, for quite obvious reasons…

Yep, you're right ..... but the kids themselves are gonna want to watch the most attractive games, featuring teams they like, and if the group or school are laying a coach on, they're gonna want it full, or near as dammit!

I'd imagine the Liverpool game would easily sell itself out twice over so it seems a strange choice of game. Why not do such trips for less attractive games, especially midweek ones?

But there’ll be neutrals all over the stadium, as with any game. They may become City fans in the end or just enjoy football and want to experience what will hopefully be a high quality game (with respect to Bournemouth and Brighton).

If we’ve had a 48k stadium and expanded by 6k but only want local hard-core City fans to fill the extra seats, does it continue when we’re adding another 7k, or another 8k after that?

And why didn’t the local hard-core fans fill the 4k seats for Napoli? Too expensive maybe?

Just playing devil’s advocate.

Just because you want something, doesn't mean to say you'll get it. Not having a pop at you, by the way. But it's a fact.

You’re talking about 20 years ago. Right now the demand is there. On this specific story, are you ok with coach loads of kids from a private school in Scotland getting tickets over say kids from schools in greater Manchester? Or just city fans in general.

Arguably our biggest game of the season as well. Why not offer tickets for lesser games or cup games?

We could easily fill the expanded stadium with affordable pricing and giving schools in greater Manchester tickets couldn’t we?

And? Most, if not all actual city fans would love to go to the biggest games. Lots don’t get the chance though.

They should be grateful for attending any games. Like most of us are.
 
They should be getting carabao cup, Fa cup games, bottom tier prem games at best.

This should also apply to Manchester schools as a priority.

Yeah, you're right ..... was just saying that the kids might not be mythering their parents or schools/groups etc to go on a trip to watch a game they don't really fancy, as much as they would to go on a trip that they do !
 
This has been going on for some time. My daughter was on a school trip a two or three seasons ago for a CL game vs Real Madrid. Her school was just south of Edinburgh (not private). The trip included a stadium tour. She was one of only two blues in the party of 80+. She said that most of the others supported Liverpool as their 'English' club. If I remember correctly they had good seats near the from of level three in the East Stand
At the time I was surprised about it but it looks like its still pretty common.
