ID cards.

So we all have digital ID cards, we present them when we go to say our GPs to prove eligibility, Mr illegal immigrant goes to the Dr, has no Digital ID, does he get lifted and deported, is he and his family detained, put in a camp and flown out of the country, unless the answer is yes, it's not going to deter illegal immigration.

So they will have to show the ID to be legally employed in the UK when this is implemented....I guess Starmer has never heard of the black economy. They'll be paid cash in hand and won't give a shit, it's not going to stop anything

Lack of a National ID card system and the need to use it to access services etc is a UK pull factor for illegal migration. It isn’t a magic bullet, but it is a factor.

Also, when the Tories changed the election law making us show a valid ID to vote, the State needed to introduce a national standardised ID rather than putting the onus on the electorate and allowing different forms of ID depending on age groups. You can’t demand people produce a valid ID and then not provide a standardised ID for use.

That's their choice to use Facebook. I'm sure a lot of them are aware of the data harvesting. With Starmer/Blairs Digital ID it's going to be compulsory which is a total different kettle of fish.

Sharing data with private companies may not be compulsory but it is near impossible to avoid.

Like I said earlier, I want to find out more information before forming an opinion. What information do you not want to share with Govt? Any different types of data you do not want to be available in one place?

Although employers are currently supposed to ensure that people working for them have a right to so do, so not sure how an ID card helps?
As for Farage, I’d imagine, despite his faux outrage, he is a big user of the illegal economy so wouldn’t be keen on helping the natives, if that’s what it does…

I imagine you make it compulsory to produce the ID and log it into the company system. No ID, no work. If an Employer wants to bypass this they can, but you will be at risk of a substantial fine. It simplifies the process.

I did some digging and I guess it goes along with these measures.

Everyone gets pissed off by every single thing, it’s a national pastime.

plastic bags = OUTRAGE
Congestion charge = OUTRAGE
Smoking ban in pubs = OUTRAGE
ULEZ = OUTRAGE

pile this one into the outrage bank before the next thing to get angry about in a couple weeks.

From what I can tell ID makes it significantly harder to use fake documents, overstay visas, or slip through loopholes in the employment system — and it makes employers more accountable - which will help tackle illegal migration, Farage is whipping up everyone to not back this. Suprise suprise.

I wonder why people were outraged over that?

Me too, as people's opinions are so fixed it's impossible to debate and pointless really, the fight isn't on Bluemoon.

On the subject of immigration it won't prevent one person coming into the country.
So many people realising that this subforum is now pointless.

Some of us thought that way before it was cool. ;-)

Starmer playing to the flagshagging crowd, while losing many of his core voters with this move.
He’s now officially Tory lite.
What he should be doing is press reform, sort out the RW agenda at the BBC, who should be threatened with having their licence scrapped unless they become impartial.
Cracking down on Farage & his roundabout paint crew.
Arresting all those involved in covid fraud.
Getting back in the EU
That’d do for starters

I footnoted him at the end. Have you ever seen any of his interviews or his writing from decades ago or have you just jumped on the media driven crackpot agenda? He actually predicted all.of the things that have actually happened in the last few years. He was talking about digital id being introduced thirty years ago.
I read a bit of one of his books once, and it was laughable in its rigour tbh mate. The sort of thing that would get you a fail in a first year university course.

None of those things pissed me off tbf.

Also I was at an away game last year and a group of young blues were boozing, not one looked over 15, and they were't but they had the most advanced fake ID cards for being over age I had ever seen.

None of the old fake NUS cards with your passport photo carefully placed in them, these were plastic cards driving liscnce style with full fake details and dates, picture and a watermrk woth gov stamps, andn to top it off a QR code that went to a fake site with a record of birth and other alleged proof.

ID cards will be easily eventually faked by those who profit from fake IDs already, in fact we are creating a new criminal enterprise which tax paters money will be wasted on trying to catch and close down.

Plus farage won't give a fuck, it actually is a right wing concept to tag ua all, but as he knows it can pass under this labour majority he doesn't need to back it and can say he opposes it to use it to whip up anti government sentiment then if in power use it and abuse it.

That's not the point I'm making. If people are upset about this then why would they willingly divulge private information about themselves on the internet? Privacy is now uncared for by many people.

This isn't some sinister precursor to totalitarianism, it's just progression. It's obviously an attempt to stop illegal work in this country, isn't that what everyone wants? As has already been addressed, other European countries have implemented this without state overreach. The paranoia shown here will have been the same paranoia shown when the first paper IDs were introduced centuries ago.
And has it done anything to stop illegal work in the countries that have it?
