26 | Savinho - 2025/26

I’m happy if he wants to fight it out with Doku for the left wing but I don’t want to see him and Doku in the same team. Not until they both hit some proper consistency. 4 goals in 52 games isn’t good enough for a winger at Manchester City.

He is a RW and will play there even though many here think he‘s a LW. Also there aren’t that many talented wingers out there currently.

I wonder what this means for Doku especially after the start to the season he has had.

If we give Savinho a new deal as a LW (We aren't giving him a deal based on his production on the right) and we also have Omar who would be next to impossible to move. the odd man out is Doku.
Doku is the only player that should be starting on that LW at the minute. I don’t care who’s got a new contract and who doesn’t

Against Huddersfield - lucky goal - but an overall very poor performance.

Huddersfield is 2 leagues below us - and against such opposition, Savinho should have shined.

Instead he was unable to beat his defender most times - and when he did or when played into an open position - he often failed to make the obvious pass. Instead, he most often plays the ball into space where hopefully an attacker might be, instead of forming a picture of the pitch and playing the ball into a position were an attacker is or will be.
We’ve lost to Wigan from two divisions below us with this team out:

Actually on three occasions we’ve failed to beat Wigan from two divisions below us (1982, 2002, 2018) and five times in total from two/one division below or having been relegated (1982, 2002, 2013, 2014, 2018).

Even Agüero and David Silva have had utter stinkers in these games.

Omar is not a winger.

A blind man can see that.. I don't know why people try to shoe horn him there.

He can be a secondary striker, he can be a 10, he can be an 8, he can play KDB free role, but he's not a winger.

Delph massive weak link.

He was actually brilliant in the 100 points season. I had it in my head it was Walker that got sent off that game. Obviously it was Delph it was just Walker that dropped a bollock to cost us the games as we completely dominated with 10 men.

I think he's better from the left because it takes away his desire to cut in and shoot which he's bad at. He's not as good as doku right now. Need to see better movement in the box when the ball is on the other wing, more fight in tackles and improve his overall decision making.

Let Lijnders work with him for a while. We've seen what he's done with Doku, you can't tell me Lijnders is not the reason Doku is showing his talent now, that new inside city episode, the goal he scored against Napoli Pep points straight at Lijnders after Doku scores and hugs him also says something.

I think Lijnders is working with our attackers even Haaland has gone up a level. Savinho has been injured at the start of the season let's let Lijnders do his thing before we make any judgements.

wage increase. we're allegedly to of turned down 60 million and buy out clause inserted to give us upper hand. spurs could well of offered 60 million but only 1 million a year to get there

I like Savinho, I think he has a lot of promise and could grow into a fantastic player.

However, surely one of the benefits is having him on a lower salary while he proves he can grow? His contract runs until 2029, I don't see why we are angling to give him improved terms.

like many have mentioned, he's a frustrating player to watch. I think he needs to slow down, everything he does seems to be at 100 mph with a lack of football intelligence.

I put it down to lack of maturity and maybe lack of ability to be coached.....even by Pep.

New contract right now is absolute nonsense, there's definitely a board member (soriano) who's pushing him because he's proof of concept for citigroup imo.

I'm not saying Savinho is a bad player, he is obviously very talented and can become very good in the future. But with him on the pitch the team just had its worst season in a decade and him scoring 1 league goal in 29 games in his only season in the club. If his first season had been a huge success, either individually or for the team, an extension on better terms might have been warranted. Now I dont really see the logic behind it. Better terms should be earned, not given just because Spurs showed interest.

Possible that we’re adding a release clause so Sav can get out if he wants and we’re locking him in a lower wages (but a raise) in exchange?

Perhaps but I don't see the need or benefit - he has a contract until 29, it's not like we can be pushed into selling him for a low fee
