30 | Claudio Echeverri - 2025/26 (on loan at Leverkeusen)

a really stupid loan for both sides, but less so for leverkusen. I reckon they thought they were simply adding a backup option if needed, especially given that we gave them no claude to make the loan permanent, and perhaps some on the city side thought we were sending him out to get serious minutes.

Why on earth would a team of leverkusen's caliber give serious minutes to a 19 year old loanee
with barely any senior experience? Made no sense then and makes no sense now.

Please share why you think that
There are numerous factors why someone might actually get more PT with a "better" side. One reason would be the position one plays and side's need. Another is system and style of play. Could simply be down to the manager of each side. Not getting time with Leverkusen does by no means mean Echeverri wouldn't get time with us.

Uh maybe because he's seen as a major talent who could help a squad like Leverkusen even if it's coming off the bench. He wasn't sent there to sit for games on end. What are we doing here?

He’s at Stoke. Started all 7 Champ games so far, scored in his first two, sent off in his third and hasn’t scored in the four since.
It's simple. One was born in Newham and we signed them from West Ham the other... was born in Newham and we signed them from West Ham...

And who he is!
Divine Mukasa is in our squad.
PS Got Mubama now, looked up. No longer confused! Did we sign them for a laugh?
He played, and scored, for the first team last season against Salford.

Erm well my point was that people are saying he should be with us as he would be getting more playing time - I cant see how he would be getting more time as Leverkusen are definitely a level below City. So not a n "invalid analogy"

I agree he wasn't sent there to be sitting on the bench (as he would be at City) so the solution would be to find a club at a level where he would play. He needs playing time to show he is a major talent which at the moment it appears he wouldnt get at Leverkusen or City.

Should’ve loaned him to someone in the championship to toughen him up to the league.
All a little weird.

He wanted to stay with us.
We wanted him to go on loan

There appeared to be no space in our squad
Eventually there was.

He wanted to go to Italy and we said no
We wanted him to go to Girona and he said no.

City wanted to send him to Girona if I recall, it was Echeverri himself who was pushing for higher calibre teams. I think Roma were in the mix as well, maybe that would have been the better move in hindsight. The kid believed in himself and picked the best team available, sometimes that can be a mistake as a young loan player because you're not seen as a developmental asset and they aren't concerned about freezing you out for a senior player.

It's a mistake, but an understandable one that came from the kids self belief.

I'm not saying he should be with us. I'm saying he'd be better off with us than at Leverkusen...

The money from Spurs for Savinho was a no brainer for me and Echeverri has shown more ability and determination in his limited minutes imo
We don't actually know what offers were made.I suspect some of the figures in the press were wildly inflated.

Sav and Echeveria actually play in different positions whatever one thinks of their relative merits and we saw very little of him.

Echeverri scored a free kick at the CWC and was a menace in the FA cup final when he came on, never seen as much from Sav.

He had a few minutes with a little promise in the FA cup, I don't recall him playing at all in the premier league.

Sav has been varied but he has scored goals and created chances in the premier league

But above everything my point stands that they don't play in the same position so one really is not in at the expense of the other.
We have more players who play centrally than wide so Echeveria chances were likely to be limited.
