Undercover in the Police documentary

1st one was ok.
Some good characters in it, like Mahoney,Hightower and Commandant Lassard etc.
But the rest of the series was absolute dross, not even worth watching at all.
Haha forgot about these. Mauser was funny as fuck.

I would think police forces are struggling to recruit these days but I may be wrong. Years ago it was looked upon as a top job and they had the respect of the majority of the public. These days i would say it has swung the other way. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't and are just stuck in the middle of endless increasingly violent protests and disputes. Add to that everybody whipping out a mobile phone and filming as soon as they appear and it's certainly a stressful occupation.
Underneath the uniform people tend to forget they are people like in any other workplace. You'll get your good and bad and they will all have different opinions. Like other large workplaces they'll often stick together when they have to.
Nothing is perfect but love them or hate them sadly they are needed. I say sadly because in an ideal world everybody would get along, they'd be no crime and people would stop killing one another. Again, sadly, that will never happen.

No police = total anarchy.
The streets would be like Mad Max,it would be a complete free for all.

How do they go to people's houses and tell them their relative has been killed in an accident / murdered ?
Just thinking about it makes me shit myself.

no problem.some of our fellow blues on this thread, will be putting their lives on the line when it goes tits up

Lousy as fuck to be blaming the officer for that poor man's death. And the generalisation that they're all wankers is grossly inaccurate; when I was younger my mates and I were out in town and one those mates was planted in the temple by a coked up lowlife. A police officer arrived, took us to the local station, and did his level best to get information from us to catch the arsehole that did it. That's my one and only experience with a police officer, and it was an exemplary one. It's a thankless job.

A vey good family friend joined the police about seven years ago and we were at an event a couple of months ago with him
He and a colleague had a shout to go the the local swingers club as a bloke had physically assaulted his wife
They turned up and at reception were asked if they would drive to the back of the club and come in through the “rear entrance”
They were stood there and told the witness to the assault would be along soon, as she was tied up. They looked at each other and the manager said , yes, she is really tied up
Ten minutes later, a middle aged woman wearing cowboy boots, hat and a pair of chaps approached them and said it’s me you need to speak to
Apparently the body cam images were jumping up and down as they were pissing themselves laughing at this scenario, so much so, that they had to turn the cameras off whilst they gained their composure
He said their body cam footage was the most viewed ever in the local nick

I've had positive and negative experiences with the plod, but a few years back my daughter's partner died in a horrible incident, the officers that came to see us and discuss events were superb.
They showed understanding and compassion that surprised me.
We need to remember there are good and bad in every profession in existence.

If only we had video recorders to film the West Midlands police at football games. In the 1980’s. Horrible bastards
My dad told me a story about going west brom early eighties,he got thrown out for swearing.frogmarched to a police van and battered of 2 coppers inside, then told to fuck off home.

It stays with you. The people who have taken their own lives that you find, the death of children and young people, the despair and devastation that you bring to someone’s home when you have to inform them-it’s easy for people to criticise those in a job when they don’t really have much contact-mostly it’s in bad circumstances, either you’re in trouble or you’re the victim of crime-

I still think of many people I came into contact with, I carry guilt for people who perhaps I could’ve helped more or had more time for.

The lives of those officers involved in that awful incident yesterday will be forever changed. The odd prick in the job doesn’t change that.

There's good cops and bad cops.
A relative of mine was high up (well a short arse tbf) in GMP.
Some of the shit he had to deal with, rapes, nonces, kiddy fiddlers, murders(one was a baby who'd had her throat cut by some fuckin low life),etc and not once was he offered counciling.
He's retired now but more than likely has PTSD.
Yes the pension he gets now is very generous but I'd rather retire without the nightmares.

Haha it was more wrong place wrong time stupid childhood stuff, my mate went to meet some kid for a fight and I went along with him so he wasn't on his own and when we got there this kids older brother jumped out of a bush waving something. I could see him squeezing the trigger before he got to me and nothing was happening so I knew it was a starter pistol or a rep or something. It hurt when he whacked me with it though! I got a bit of a kicking but nothing too serious. My friend was lucky he was quicker than me as they would have really hurt him.

“this kids older brother jumped out of a bush waving something” that Stan Collymore fucking gets about doesn’t he?

I can empthasise with your relative-I was diagnosed with PTSD a couple of years ago-not sure labelling stuff helps, whilst I have found ways-mainly exercise, as a coping mechanism, I am easily triggered esp when high profile jobs hit the news which can cause the demons to reappear.

There was literally zero mental health support during my service-you are expected to keep coming back each shift for more of the same-it obv takes a toll.

I'm not sure I know anybody with 20+ years service who isn't mentally scarred by it.

West Brom v City 1983, aged 20, City score, we all go mad and I lost my footing and slipped over. Someone picks me up and I turn to say “thanks” and the cop twists my arm around my back and marches me off to the police room as my mates pile around saying I hadn’t done anything.
I’m in this room with loads of plod stood around and a big bastard in a white shirt with stripes. I keep protesting I’d done nothing other than fall over and looked directly at the twat who nabbed me and asked him what did I do? Nothing. That’s why you won’t answer. Big twat in white shirt tells me to shut up.
In frustration I move to the back wall, lean against it with one foot against the wall. Big twat in white shirt gets up, charges over to me, grabs my jacket collar and punches me on the lower chin saying take your foot off the wall or I’ll be in court for criminal damage (seriously!)
He then asks for my name and address and no idea why I said this, but I did - “I’m not saying anything without the presence of a solicitor”. Big fat twat in white shirt is rankled….. “what did you say?”
i shat myself, gulped and repeated it, half expecting another slap but instead he said “take his description down and throw him out”
I thought “hhmmm I’m in the right here” and as one plod opened the door I turned and looked at him and said “and I noted your number and will be reporting you for assault” he got up up and ran towards me but I was through the door and off like a rocket! The twat never left the safety of the room surrounded by his chums.
Imagine if you had been convicted - no eggheads appearance, no US citizenship and subsequently no covered bridge documentaries - proper sliding doors moment

All cops are bastards

I'm sure the poor families of PC's Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone would appreciate that message.

Easy enough to type on the internet I suppose.

Dickheads in every job and every walk of life, Police are no exception. Met plenty gobshite Lawyers, teachers, doctors, mechanics, tradesmen you name it. Fuck, football is a prime example.

Likewise I've been to games and had my ear chewed off from coppers when I didn't think I was doing owt wrong, and had a laugh with others.

Their job is probably harder than I or you could imagine. And for what, respect? No, just constant scrutiny and hindsight brigade telling them exactly what they should have done/not done.

All that said, the panorama stuff is undoubtedly damning. It certainly paints a poor reflection. I do wonder how many of these undercover reporters are sent in to forces up and down the country though and we don't ever hear anything because basically there's little or no drama to report.
