The Piccadilly Gardens Problem - new development proposal (P32)

Piccadilly Gardens are the responsibility of Manchester City Council. Burnham is the Mayor of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Blaming him for the Gardens is like blaming Jim Ratcliffe for City not having a right back. Or Khaldoon for the leaking roof at Old Toilet.

If you want to criticise Burnham, choose something for which he is responsible, such as the Bee Network. If you want to moan about the Gardens, blame the Councillors of Manchester City Council. Their Leader is someone called Bev Craig.
Totally wrong he is the Police and Crime Commissioner as well so he has responsibility for the Policing of the area. Within that remit comes MCC. Look at his job spec before making such statements

Politicians do not have, and never have had, operational control of the police. That means he cannot instruct the Chief Constable where to deploy his officers.

So his responsibility for police priorities is tenuous, to say the least. Unless you are arguing that he should put Council Tax up substantially to pay for more police officers. (I'm not sure that that's in his power, but even if it is, it would not force the CC to deploy the extra officers in particular locations.)

your naivety is touching...

Honestly I've just watched a YouTube video by billy Moore posted today and what the hell is going on round there,
It's a zoo full of the dregs of society.
How can those in power around here just let this happen in the city centre.
It needs ringing fencing off.
Not a police officer in sight while school girls are watching grown adults openly take drugs.
Sad to see.

That scouse **** is the biggest wind up merchant going.

Needs a fucking good kicking.

Piccadilly gardens is in the heart of the Manchester regions, which is what he is elected of. It is also the gateway to the Manchester regions and should be an area the city and regions are proud of
As the commissioner the police are accountable to him
Why can he fuck about trying to secure a new stadium for the rags, but not get involved in something which is a very serious issue for many many Mancunians and visitors to the region

Almost any Labour candidate would be voted into Burnham's position

To all the pricks who sought to defend Andy Burnham last week over the issue of failing to police the Gardens effectively on the basis that policing was not within his remit try reading the article in The MEN.
'Andy Burnham has confirmed he ordered the former chief constable of Greater Manchester Police to resign in the wake of a damning inspection report'. I would suggest the new CC knows where the power lies

Just checked a Billy M video today - he's in Manchester and starts off with the fact that Charlie V is in prison....
Doesn't know why but stated he had been banned from the Garden's.

Not Charlie Vietch, its the one legged guy in the wheelchair he is on about, anyone who has watched Charlie Vietch lately will know how recent threats and the murder of Charlie Kirk have impacted him. While i understand people can have a negative view of him, it is sad that he isnt safe walking around the City Centre.

That is not operational control. Burnham cannot direct how police resources are deployed.

It would help if you understood concepts like 'operational control.' Clearly, you do not.

Signed.

Honestly are you being totally thick? Do you really believe that having been appointed appointed by Burnham he does not do what Burnham asks him to do or not in the case of this this subject. Do you understand the concept of realpolitik?

we should turn it into a boating lake
They've got one in New Brighton for model boats - looks great. They could make it slightly elevated so anyone pissed or spaced out couldn't access it.

Anyone mentioned sprinklers yet? Turn them on for anyone anti-social but I suppose will just move the problem elsewhere. Liverpool has street drinkers and people sleeping in tents but seems more spread out and not in one main space.
