Any one remember during the 1950s no one owned a phone of any type , the only option was a long walk round to local shops and outside the police station was the red telephone kiosk with a Button A and button B phone inside the box.
To make a phone call it cost four old D. You put four D in the slot and dial your number if the call failed you pressed B to get your money back
Unless someone blocked the return slot with rolled up paper and the the thief would return days later to collect the takings
