Any one remember during the 1950s no one owned a phone of any type , the only option was a long walk round to local shops and outside the police station was the red telephone kiosk with a Button A and button B phone inside the box.
To make a phone call it cost four old D. You put four D in the slot and dial your number if the call failed you pressed B to get your money back

Unless someone blocked the return slot with rolled up paper and the the thief would return days later to collect the takings

That sounds cruel. We had a phone box around the corner from us. Used to check it daily for returned coins.

Who remembers Kellogg's Rise and shine orange juice drink? This was cracking for a hangover. I used to take a pint glass full of it to bed after a night out, waking up to drink it when my mouth felt like the inside of a flip flop. You had to remember to take a spoon with you to stir it though or the powder settled at the bottom. Great stuff, sadly discontinued.
It was fucking RANK !!

Mine was the offset to the right inkwell one. The small area of desk facing toward you as you sat down was engraved with all sort of rubbish, you used your compass to do it.
Same here. I miss those desks. Proper places to write on and store all your books/ bits etc. Not like those lockers poor darlings have to put up with now.

I remember those as a young boy in the early 60's. My mum telling me to press the A button when the call was answered.

I also remember these.

Police call boxes, and nothing like the Tardis in Dr Who. There was one situated on the corner of Lloyd St and Stamford New Rd in Altrincham. The light on the top would flash when they wanted a police officer to answer the call.

Crikey, that brought back memories. In the late 60s/early 70s, I lived in Sale Moor and there was a proper butcher there. On certain days, a lorry would back up to a side gate and live animals would be delivered, the gate would be closed behind them and, before long, blood would run under the gate and across the pavement into the gutter. Shortly after, full sheep's heads would appear on the display.

Imagine the horror now. Some people would be so traumatised, they'd never be able to work again and we'd have to pay them "compo".

Just realised, the butcher's is still there, 138 Northernden Road. Wonder if they still slaugter their own meat.
