Everton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I thought Foden, Haaland, Nico G and Nico O were the standout players today.

The line up was poor from Pep and it's frustrating that he still picks a team that has no chemistry at times.

I'm confused as to why Reijnders is undropable, he offers nothing in attack or defence, the midfield loses all balance with him starting.

Ake started poorly but grew into the game, Dias was poor on build-up and got bullied all game.

Cherki when he came on was very good, for me he should start RW most games with Khusanov behind him.

Said it countless times but Rodri and Nico G would make a great midfield duo.

I absolutely agree with everything Pep says here so cheers Pep you've saved me from writing it myself lol. I'll just add as he says the other fuckers have to step up and start converting their chances.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC MOTD: "Typical first half after international break. We were not able to control the second balls, it wasn't easy. Everton and David Moyes are doing an incredible job. The quality is there and they have the long balls and experienced defenders. When we broke it we started to play better.

On Erling Haaland: "Disappointed he did not score four or five. All jokes aside, really pleased but we can not rely on just him, we need other players. Wingers, attacking midfielders. They have to make a step up and score goals. We play to provide Erling with quality and passing but other players have to step up. The chances were clear and they have to score. At this level they have to demand themselves. Chances from Savinho and Jeremy [Doku] and Tijjani [Reijnders] - they have to score. They have to do it otherwise we can't do what we want to do.

"Erling lives for it. Our delivery of passes has been better and Erling is our key man right now."

On building momentum: "We have sustained the level. Minutes from Oscar [Bobb] and Bernardo [Silva] and Rayan [Cherki]. We need everyone back because it's a lot of games. Contribution is important and the players know that they have to be ready. We started a bit difficult with Tottenham and Brighton but since the last international break we have come back. Winning helps us to win more and now we have to continue in Champions League."

Not really. We created some good chances and generally controlled the game well, bar their chance after Ake's mistake.

Everton have been solid defensively this season. But we could've scored 4 goals.

We'll get better in attack as the season progresses. The likes of Cherki and Marmoush can help a lot. I'm sure Savinho will get better too.

Weird isn’t it? I thought we were shite and loads better second half.

If we’d have carried on playing the same way we did in the first half, we could’ve played for 5 hours and not scored.

Not sure where we are at the moment. Decent in stretches, poor in others, comfortable win in the end.

Very pleased with Nico G and Foden.

A frustrating watch first half where we could easily have been a goal behind early on. Nothing seemed to quite work right. Passes were frequently either under or over hit, even those to someone stood a few yards away. No one appeared to be operating on the same wave length.
The second half was much better once Phil blew off the cob webs from his week off and started moving the ball around well, he was involved in the build up for both goals. Haaland did well with the two he scored but not so well with the two one on ones where he really should have scored, I thought they were easier to convert than the ones he did put away.
Good subs by Pep today, they made a difference in the game.
Ndiaye was a real handful, a skilful looking player, very easy on the eye.
It would be really nice to have everyone fit, up and running for a good few months now, it's been very irritating to lose so many players for the length of time that we have. We could do with some stability.

To be honest that was the start of the second half too. The goal came from nowhere really.

The good news is we are well placed and haven’t really played that great all season.

That’s an important 3 points. If we can stay within 3 points of the top till Jan and give Rodri time to fully recover, get the other new players to gel and we could win the league again. Arsenal are going to be tough to stop though.

We just continued to run into a brick wall for the first hour of the game, and were fortunate that a well drilled Everton team hadn't taken the lead .. Doku did show more willing than most, but once gain his final ball was frustratingly poor ..... however our general play, and chances created, did improve after Haalands first goal, and by full time he could have had another three goals to go with the two he did get !

Special mention for O'Reilly for his part in Haalands first goal, brilliant run and cross.

Just seen the table after the arsenal match, we are actually sitting quite pretty seeing as we are still just getting up to speed, having big Erl as hungry as we've seen him helps a lot and we would probably be fucked without him.
We are not far off a fully fit squad and things are on the up, whether or not this squad can match the heights others reached remains to be seen, but we should be good for staying up at least! And we seem to have a lot more going for us than around this time last season

Haaland is magnificent. We played well once we were ahead. I enjoyed watching Bernardo run the game. I also thought Bobb played well when he came on. He kept the ball well.

A game of two halves. I think a lot of people underestimate how awkward Everton are to play. They don't offer much attacking threat but they do defend very well or did until Haaland scored. Once Haaland scored they lost heart.
