Old Maine Road photos thread

Over half of my Maine Road days were spent in that open triangle, mostly leaning on that barrier on that far right.

The better rake and seeing most of the pitch over the NS was a prime position for a semi short arse and the over hang from the NS kept me dry most of the time too.

Yeah, I spent a good bit of time in there - I'm a short arse too. Probably to thick to realise the North Stand covered a bit of the corner. Was it called Windy Corner- and I don't mean farting? ;-)

Probably already been posted but i love this photo of braziers being used to thaw out the pitch in 1953

Not a photograph but a video, apologies if it's been posted before. I remember watching and reading such stuff back in the day and feeling inspired that we were so well run. Incredible we pinned all our hopes on this corner shop chancer for si many years.

Swales really was a dick.

Looking back he was an egomaniac. It was all about him. He revelled in the power and limelight. His ego was bigger than his ability. He was out of his depth back then and as football evolved at a fast rate he floundered even more until he sank. Luckily for us the club didn't sink with him but it was bloody close.

How the heck did he get the F.A. executive position - cannot remember his exact title ?
Think this made him even more self-important and arrogant.
Anyone remember the T.V. doc when Malcolm Allison scoffed at his idea of putting in a bid for Asa Hartford ? He looked at Swales as if he was an imbecile...

That documentary was an embarrassment and showed us just what a joke the club was at that time, not that we needed any proof.
