That's a photo of Bert's Testimonial in 1964, which I was at with my mate Lofty.

Bert was captaining his joint City/United team against the Select England XI, captained by Jimmy Armfield of Blackpool and England.

Amongst others, the Select XI contained Stanley Matthews and Tom Finney.. the latter was my Dad's favourite player along with Peter Doherty of City.. he often used to say to me 'There are many great footballers.. but then there is Tom Finney and Peter Doherty, better than them all..'

I am struggling to recognise some of the players in the pre-season photo from 1964.

My guess is:

Gomersall, Kevan, Cheetham, Dowd, Wood, Kennedy, Murray
Stobart, Bacuzzi, Connor, Oakes, Wagstaffe, Pardoe, Gray.

Why no Neil Young (injured)?
