Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Watched the game today boring only one team wanted to attack with a bit of luck we would had a couple of goals
Blantant two arm push in back no penalty anywhere else on pitch free kick
Football today is lauded with praise for 11 men behind ball and counter attack
You can stick it for me football becoming boring least city have a go

If we can get those 3 playing regularly and building an understanding it would be interesting. Marmoush near assist today was excellent ans cherki is always looking forward
Clutching at straws they aint any better.

In fact, they make us even worse physically them two.

The answers are not in the squad, its just average in every direction. Infuriating but true.

Sat in Dublin airport having heard the flight is delayed so thought I'd write out how I currently feel. I caught the first half only and missed the second but this post is more about City in general than today. I find it incredulous that a 4 times champions winning team whom also won the Champions League, FA cup, Super cup and World cup innthe same period now less than two seasons later find themselves looking a shell of their former selves.

We've listened to Khaldoon tell us everything is in place to maintain that challenge. We've watched a new stand and hotel being built which all point to us aiming to maintain and stay at the top. We've seen the worlds no 1 striker sign a 10 year contract whilst breaking numerous records these past few seasons. We're delighted the greatest manager signed an extended contract. All this and plenty more whilst fighting a barrage of negative press surrounding the 115 charges. All the above should be pointing to a bright and great future with a fever pitch expectation of success and continued glorious football. So why does it feel we are currently a long way from that?

Last week v Everton and on many other occaison it's been a dire watch punctuated by the odd bit of genius usually from Haaland. Our style of football is a reflection of more recent signings and I'm now firmly of the opinion that we are carrying at least half a dozen players with a few more yet to prove themselves. We have bought poorly, we continually play players out of position and whether he will admit it or not Pep plays his favourites above others. Some of these players will have good games, they will show promise, they will perform as they should do, afterall they are premier league players. However I genuinely feel they will fail to perform at a standard required every week, to win trophies. They severley lack the strong mentality and the desire not to lose. We are far too nice. The push on Gvardiol today should have had us screaming for a penalty, instead we just played on as if it was nothing had happened in total contrast to Villas players falling over and claiming everyone a foul.

Nunes, Savinho, Doku, Bobb, Rico are simply not good enough to command a first team place. I actually don't think they're good enough for us period. I've seen enough. There are also a few others that have yet to fully impress they have the level required. We need to stop kidding ourselves, stop wanting it to come good, it will here and there but it won't ever like it did before with this current squad.

And what I find most baffling of all is that Pep must have had a say in these players.
Think this a pretty fair summary

I think there might be an over reliance on Rodri returning as the player he used to be The injury he had is likely to have impacted upon him both physically and mentally. It remains to be seen whether he will put his foot in the way he used to with the potential risks that might involve.
I think this also impacts on Foden. Phil has never really been able to tackle and has tended to avoid this aspect of the game and physicality is not something you associate with his game. His booking highlighted this aspect of his game.
We need to be looking for someone who is a true DM in the model of a Fernandinho to shore up this area.

Having a coach that knows he cant be sacked and can do no wrong is a bad thing
He repeated the same mistake 3 years in a row against villa away
The problem he is so stubborn and will never listen to us
All the fans knew that this line up was gonna cost us
But the coach earning millions cant see it
But if we critique him we are considered fake fans it is laughable really

Absolutely, they are all squad players. If we want the be back at the very top they need upgrading.

We need to start getting 2 of Rodri, Kova and Nico in the midfield at all times, if we have that solid base in midfield O'Reilly/Ait-Nouri and Nunes can be more adventurous to provide width and Foden, Reijnders and Cherki get freed up to drift about the top of the pitch causing havoc.

It's not been possible really yet due to players picking up injuries and returning from long lay offs but I think it will all start to click once we can do that.

Khusanov returning will give us that raw pace at the back that allows us to bring the line higher and suffocate teams like we used to again.

shambolic starting 11. So many small weak players v a side we know are strong and direct.

How savinho played 82 mins is baffling.

Team that finished should have been the majority of starters.

But I can see if Nico x2 were just short of fitness than ok but Bobb and savinho were gash.

Arsenal will be fine as long as there’s little pressure on them.

Us and the dips are going out of our way to give them an easy ride.

It's still very early and City and Liverpool will improve and Arsenal will slip up
City has had some badly time injuries in the past 2 seasons and Rodri can still not get fully fit and may miss another big chunk of the season

Agreed, apart from being the best and most successful coach not only of City but also the history of football, what's he ever done?

Fraud imo

Clutching mate..clutching.

Nah, It's an annoying loss as we could be sat 2nd now but compare that to the absolute fucking shambles of our last 2 trips to Villa Park. We were much more competitive, we only lost to a jammy goal from the opposition full back shooting from outside the box on his weak foot.

They were defending for their lives in the last half an hour, maybe with 30 minutes to work with Cherki could have picked the lock and put one on Erlings head or foot six yards out.

It's done now anyway, Swansea a good chance to build some confidence before a tough game against a Bournemouth side in fine fettle
