Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Not sure about that,

We haven't won a game we didn't deserve to win.

Admittedly, we have been shit in the 3 games lost though.
Everton at home, we could and should have been behind, thankfully Beto is shit.

Brentford away, not top sure we got out of our own half in the second half.

Playing OK for 45 minutes isn't anywhere near good enough, as shown today once you do that against even a half decent side you'll get turned over.

That's the point I was trying to make about papering over the cracks. We can't even keep possession of the ball anymore and that's not from pressure from the opposition, that's just from us being shit in possession in general.

Take Donnarumma and Haaland out of this side and we'd be in the bottom half of the table.

I get that but young players, particularly wingers are so difficult to predict. I remember Peter Barnes being unplayable on his day for defenders and unplayable on his off days for everyone else. Savihno is clearly talented, will he fulfill his potential? What knows but he won’t if he doesn’t play.
Rather he didn't play tbh!

who else could he have played there though?

Kova and Nico clearly were not fit enough....IM also not sure Kov adds or changes that performance (Nico did when he came on tbf)
Play them both for half a game each... if they need to come off 30 mins into either half then fair enough...

Our winger choices are atrocious. Foden's level has fallen but it shouldn't be a problem if we actually recruited proper replacements for the wing. One good performance from Doku and Savinho and people are getting giddy. And Bobb, I think we have given him enough chances, time to close this chapter and move him on. Keep Doku for entertainment value and sub purposes. Bin the other 2 and please recruit players that are actually WORLD CLASS.

Yep.

This was our side today other than Donna and Haaland. 3 goals between them in 9 games.

As someone else alluded too. We have probably been over performing due to Haaland.

Bernado - 0 goals this season (4 in last 42)

Foden - 1 this season.

Dias - 0 this season (and none in his last 3 seasons)
Stones - 0 this season
Gvardiol - 0 this season
Bobb - 0 this season (only 1 in 25 games in his career)
Savinho 0 this season. (1 in 35 )
Nunes - 1 this season. (Only 2 in 33 in total)
Reijnders - 1 this season.
Plenty can see the issues. Unfortunately a lot cant see whats right in front of them...

We have massive issues, full back, centre half, CDM, both wings and arguable if Haaland doesnt score then upfront too.

Its been obvious for a few years.

Bobb should be 4th choice. Doku 3rd choice. We should have 2 top class wingers in front of them...

Savinho should never pull a shirt on for this club ever again.... no idea what people are watching supporting him at this point

Not taking Spurs money for Savinho was fucking criminal, to then give him a new contract is fucking farcical.

Sums up our recruitment and extending contracts over the last 2/3 years.

Terrible.
If it happened at another club we'd be convinced whoever made the decision was taking a bung from the player's agent.

Savinho is clearly not talented enough...

It's more worrying that Pep continues to start Savinho.

Ever since he's back from injury he's been starting, that's not even mentioning his new contract.

He's fucking gash and the club renewed his contract and our manager selects him everytime.

It's fucking bizarre.

We've done alright in the games won.

No one ever batters everyone each week when winning the league, despite what Rags, Dips and Tarq's have you believe.

However, the games we have lost have been woeful by us, that is a concern.

Just when you thought Hincliffe could not get more annoying... he has been full anti-City today, (not that we have been good) but back to the days where the commentary has been as if we are an overseas team
I am puzzled how many Blues listen to the bias British commentary. Turn the volume off your match day experience will improve ten fold.

@chedlee What has he done to win the accolade ‘clearly talented?’ I can’t recall him ripping up any trees..
If he never played again, I wouldn’t give a shit. Same for Bobb and Doku.
Are any of these starters for Bayern, RM, Barca, PSG?
The amount of stick Sterling got as a winger. But at his peak he was levels above Sav and Doku. He and Sane were spectacular for two seasons.

I’ve said it before but if the rags were to turn down 70m for him and then offer him a ridiculous contract and for him to then serve the same shite up, everyone of us on this forum would be pissing themselves laughing!

The last three seasons we've played there our midfield has been the following:

Stones Akanji Lewis
Gundo Kovacic Lewis
Bernardo Stones Reijnders

Its absolutely staggering and shows why we've fallen off. We're miles off being able to field an elite team.

I think we know how it really is..
We do not have quality wingers or decent full backs (we are making do with a pretty poor midfielder at RB).
We have no steel in midfield and an over reliance on a striker who can’t contribute if he doesn’t score. Otherwise we have zero goal threat.
We are not a bad team, just not great. Still in transition..
