The Labour Government

How utterly predictable that the champagne socialists on this thread are trying to minimise and dismiss Rachel from Customer Services actions.

This isn't a trivial oversight under any circumstances and certainly not for someone who holds such an important position.

Her actions were either done with fraudulent intent or else she's so incompetent and irresponsible that she's utterly unfit for her position.

Having said that it will be a shame to see her go, I'm loving seeing this entire Labour cabinet demonstrate time and again how utterly corrupt, self serving and avaricious they all are.

They are all at it. It would be much easier if the Ministerial Code was statutory and contained provisions that if a minister is found to breach criminal or civil law whilst serving then they are obliged to stand down. Consistent, fair standard that should be easily attainable.

And neither by the sound of it are the letting agents. It's not a good look but imagine employing a company to do a professional job and they don't. Who do you blame, yourself or them?

But I also hope there is a serious look at who leaked the information to the DM, because i'd be amazed if there isn't a confidentiality clause in their contract. Or maybe Starmer shopped her so he can get rid ;-)

Ultimately it's a nothing story unless you're BKB or Gray
Many thanks Hampshire.

P.S. - I am down your way on the 16th for an overnight at a cheapish hotel before sailing off to the Canaries on the P&O Arcadia on the 17th. I will give you a wave from my suite on ‘B’ Deck.

I've said it's not a good look. Now you conflate it with an illegal being deported- well done. No doubt you will get your way and the press and Badenoch will get what they want.

Let's see what the reaction the next time a minister( who is a person) says the'yre taking a few days off to make sure all of their matters are in order. There'll be bloody uproar.

Maybe every MP should be given a 2 week window and an amnesty to sort all of their affairs out. Any issues after that they get the book thrown at them.

Tories must be digging into her affairs very deeply to uncover this (and it was the letting agents fault) Shame they dont pay as much attention when their mates do it.

The Letting Agents have already confirmed they wrote to Reeves informing her of her specific obligations to obtain the appropriate licence for a rental property required in that area.

Ok

Number 10 has received new information on Chancellor row that have been passed to the ethics advisor.

According to the DM reporter, it was leaked to her about the lack of licence. An item on the radio just now from a landlord in the same area says the regulations are pretty complex and the council effectively has no way to monitor the status of properties. They rely on landlords coming forward when circumstances change and only take action if the council finds out first that an offence has been committed, and even then they have rarely if ever fined anyone.

Rental agent has apologised for not applying for licence and for misleading the Chancellor. Don’t they know that BKB and its still her fault and should be sacked.

Reeves 'would have been under the impression that a licence had been applied for' - estate agentpublished at 17:34
17:34Breaking

We've just heard for the first time from the letting agency which oversaw the renting out of Rachel Reeves' former family home.

They were previously declining to comment but Gareth Martin, owner of Harvey Wheeler, has now released a statement - here it is in full:

"We alert all our clients to the need for a licence. In an effort to be helpful our previous property manager offered to apply for a licence on these clients' behalf, as shown in the correspondence.

"That property manager suddenly resigned on the Friday before the tenancy began on the following Monday.

"Unfortunately, the lack of application was not picked up by us as we do not normally apply for licences on behalf of our clients; the onus is on them to apply.

"We have apologised to the owners for this oversight.

"At the time the tenancy began, all the relevant certificates were in place and if the licence had been applied for, we have no doubt it would have been granted.

"Our clients would have been under the impression that a licence had been applied for. Although it is not our responsibility to apply, we did offer to help with this.

"We deeply regret the issue caused to our clients as they would have been under the impression that a licence had been applied for."
