Referees' Performances | 2025/26

There is absolutely no doubt that VAR should have intervened in this instance and recommended a review with a view to disallowing the goal. Here is the extract from The Laws of the Game:

"The categories of decision/incident which may be reviewed in the event of a potential ‘clear and obvious error’ or ‘serious missed incident’ are:

a. Goal/no goal

attacking team offence in the build-up to or scoring of the goal (handball, foul, offside etc.)"

This was a foul on the defending goalkeeper, with the ball in play, and in the build up to a goal. It was disguised from Taylor's sight, so VAR should have stepped in.

Donnarumma should have been stronger. The ball wasn't even near him you might argue; you don't penalise off the ball fouls. That's just nonsense propagated by anti-City media and pundits. Look at Foden's caution. Taylor stopped play and rightly cautioned Foden for an off the ball incident of pulling, whilst Bournemouth were progressing in possession of the ball. One holding incident was seen and penalised. I've holding incident was not seen and it led to a goal. If seen, it should have been penalised too.

Let's hope PGMOL offer an explanation and an apology, regardless of the outcome of the game. They made a mistake last week and we lost points as a consequence.
Let's say Donnarumma had pulled against the attacker holding him and he's unbalanced and falls over as the ball is in the air.

Do you think Taylor hesitates in pointing to the spot? And do you think VAR would overturn his decision?

The answer to both those questions is no. Rightly or wrongly (wrongly in my opinion) it would have been a penalty to them.

Stat padding. Happens a lot. Games over so they referee properly again. It’s their get out of jail card if and when anyone dares to say we are favoured, they can point to the fact that the stats prove we are not.

It's a pertinent point. Every match it seems 35/40 minutes before we get a foul, as was the case yesterday. While the opposition get a string of cheap fouls.
I hope it's just a case of consistent coincidences.

It’s his job to see their forwards putting our keeper in an armlock. He should be concentrating on that above all else.

It’s nout to do with being strong, an 8 stone woman who knows what she’s doing could put you in an armlock and your balance and therefore your movement and the timing of that movement is thrown out of kilter
Every player has every player they’re marking or being marked by in an arm, body, head-lock at every corner in every game. The ref can’t look at all of them at once.

Video technology is there for a reason. That’s all on them, not the live referee.

Penalties are rarely given considering the huge amount of pulling and grappling at corners. Players are fully wrestled to the ground and referees just wave ‘NO’ all the time.

There could realistically be a penalty at every corner the amount of it that goes on.

Like others have said, I thought it was soft at the time and shouted my frustration towards Donnarumma yesterday, but watching it back it was a clear foul. Just enough to prevent him being able to get set, ahead of the cross. It wasn’t about ‘not being strong enough’ rather he was impeded sufficiently to prevent him making a proper contact. If we have to suffer VAR, this should be one of the ‘clear and obvious’ scenarios that justify its interference of the game.

I also get his temporary head-loss, now. ‘Fkn Fuming’, I bet?!

The keeper is the most influential player in the box for a corner so the ref’s first job is to make sure he’s not being illegally interfered with

Donnaruma should have pushed him away. Clearly weak keeping as he didn't retaliate with a foul of his own.
I'd imagine a goalie is very nervous about pushing/pulling/bumping an attacker ?
If the ref thinks he has offended, it is a penalty with perhaps a sending off ?
At a corner, for example, if the offender gives away a free kick, seldom do they get a yellow or red card.

Great quote and great memory too.
They tend to stick when you see something that ridiculous in real time. Also, that season Rooney, Welbeck, and Jones each should have gotten a red card for two footed diving tackles on Aguero at the swamp. All three were more reckless than what Vinny did on that Portuguese twat in the FA cup the season prior. Zero yellow cards between them if I remember correctly.

At least they're getting their dose of karma for a couple decades to compensate for that one season.

Irrelevant
Outfield players being held don’t need to use their arms to punch or catch. You can’t pull a goalie’s arm when he’s trying to clear a corner. It’s a foul 100% of the time unless he’s wearing a City shirt obviously.

I doubt that, defenders always get more leeway than attackers in that situation and they know it.

Nobody should ever be surprised by biased referees in our games, but the two standout cunts are imo Taylor and Oliver. Yesterday Taylor did his best to try and stop City from winning due to his tactics and bias.

I believe that these two arrogant fuckers, knowing full well that they will be defended and protected by the likes of Webb and the PiGMOL organisation, deliberately allow substantial leniency towards teams playing against us. Yesterday was a perfect example but thankfully the team played too well for the ref to be able to affect the final outcome.

Pep said it all, he knows the score, and it has been going on for as long as City have challenged the status quo of the established hierarchy. PiGMOL are the regular and persistent tool in the armoury, whilst the PL go for the bigger and potentially more damaging effects of the 115 charges.

The PL/PiGMOL alliance is open to abuse, and the two bodies should be independently financed organisations if we are ever to stand a chance to see total transparency and fairness in the game.

But the PL/PiGMOL alliance is unlikely to be broken ironically because of the finances that City's success has brought to the income streams.

Do you really believe there is an agenda against City and we get unfair treatment in comparison to other clubs?
