Borussia Dortmund (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Good performance overall but took foot off gas probably thinking of next Sunday and due to the short break from last Sunday
Who the fuck let that idiot in with the drum and the megaphone I dont understand why they travel so far to not watch the game jumping up and down swaying from side to side waving scarfs singing repetitive moronic songs Germans are a weird nation

Foden Haaland Donnarumma Rodri Cherki all playing well regularly, is enough to win the league, and maybe more.

As mentioned, a lot of others are improving too.

It makes those blips at Villa and Brighton hard to fathom?
Nico G didn't play at Villa, we were far too open. Sad to say but I thought we'd lose that game as soon as I saw the lineup, with us struggling there the last few seasons.

With hindsight it could be argued that the blips v Brighton and Spurs were down to a late pre season.

And I suspect a fair few teams might have a blip at Villa Park

managed to watch the first 20 of the second half over breakfast and some passages of play were brilliant. Left for work as Dortmund had a few chances around the time they the multiple substitutions. If the first half was anything like the start of the second it was a top game.

Comprehensive win in a potentially tough game. We look so much more potent in attack than last season. Tiny wobble when they got a goal back but for me that serves to demonstrate what a good team we beat.

For three quarters of that game we were very very good.. but we had a 15/20 minute spell after their goal when we were all over the place and I was starting to get Feyenoord vibes… maybe some of the players that played that night were also getting those vibes

I don't think Dortmund were very good. They were well organised but they didn't carry any threat. Adeyemi was quick but pretty useless. They were very ordinary but they kept going. City seemed to tire in the 2nd half. Dortmund were fully rested having played on Friday and that might have been a factor, or they might just be fitter than we are.

I agree with your comment that we were very good but didn't quite sustain it. Pep could have made his subs a bit earlier. At 3-1 I was also a little nervous. It's hard to completely control a game.

They were very fit+athletic and seemed to be coached reasonably well in a reasonable system. But they were limited as footballers.

Slow start and really City couldn't get hold of the ball for 20 minutes, but saying that, Dortmund didn't really trouble us in the first 20 minutes, but what a difference from 12 months ago, Last season the same players other than Reijnders Donnarumma started a Champions League game and folded like a pack of cards

We are still missing Rodri and the same players are 12 months older, but we have one thing different from last season and it is that we have belief again, Pep likes to call it the smell ? You can smell it a mile off

But it's not just coming from the players, but Pep himself. The fire is back
It's simple, the manager is hungry again and is fighting for every ball and he is conducting his orchestra from the touchline.

There is NO it's OK to finish 2nd or have a bad season or the players are too old, IT'S NOW, I will fight you for a throw-in or I will kick your arse for a bad pass, even at the weekend Pep comments about the referee, Antony Taylor was a joy to hear

Had a similar conversation with my Dad after the Bournemouth game. I liked Bernardo getting fired up on the pitch against Bournemouth and the whole team seemed to have that drive. The attitude was apparent again this evening, and as you say, not finishing 1st is not ok. Siege mentality is a must and it requires everybody on the pitch to know that failure is not an option.
