47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Problem with Foden is that most people who watch football are idiots and support red shirts. He will finish his career severely under rated by most who haven't spent 10 years watching him but instead think they know his game because they saw him play for England for 10 minutes getting the ball in all the wrong positions because no one will pass it to him when he's got two players on his back.

He needs team mates that trust him. Look at the players who came up with him and won the U17 world cup and you'll see Foden has massive excelled in comparison - this is obviously helped by playing for Manchester City but he outperforms Scholes, Lampard, Fabregas and Gerrard in terms of goals and assists per game in the league (according to chatgpt) but he will not often be talked about being in their same bracket. He even dare I say it has a higher G/A per game than David Silva. Bergkamp and Kev are on another level.

Phil will likely finish his career with more trophies than any English player in history. He is already the most successful at his age. The way he is underrated by the English press confirms that we have the most ignorant sports media in the world. David Silva is revered as an all-time great in Spain but not by the morons over here.

Tommie Tickle has said he will play in a central position as a 10/9. Given that he was very descriptive on Bellend playing 10 I'm not convinced that Phil will get that much game time.
Phil getting a cameo may be the best thing for now. Last thing we want is him being shoehorned into the team, struggling, and then all this media lambasting crap starts again.

Or worse he picks up an injury. I only care about him playing for England because being picked makes him happy. Otherwise fuck England.

My thoughts too.

Bringing so much, all over the pitch now. After a difficult year or so he looks like he's suddenly become a man and seasoned world class player.
I think De Bruyne leaving has done him some good. Even in his POTS year, as soon as De Bruyne came back from injury, Foden was put in the RW.

Now, he knows he’s the senior man in central attacking midfield. I think he’s growing with the responsibility of that.

Having a great season. I actually think his general play and influence on games feels like it’s even better than his POTS season. Yes he scored a lot of goals, good goals, that season but I do think his all-round game might well be better.

I’d love to see a breakdown of his stats from that season to this like Opta did for Rodri here, see if my suspicions are right:

Here’s one example of something I was looking for with regards to this:
