Nottingham, Stoke on Trent, Edinburgh, Hamburg, Munich, Porto, Genoa and Turin say hello. Was just looking at the table and thinking. If both Sheffield clubs go down — and it's highly possible — that that would I suppose be the first time that they had both been relegated from the same division (whichever one that was) in the same season?
Now, are there any other cities that have lost both their clubs to relegation from the same division in the same season? There aren't that many clear two-club cities in England, but if we extend it to Scotland, and then to Europe, it becomes more possible, if unlikely. In England there is only Bristol and, I suppose, you could argue, Manchester (although County, Bolton, Oldham and Rochdale would reject that way of looking at Manchester). In Scotland there's very clearly Dundee and, I suppose you could argue, Glasgow, although it's the same problem: I'm sure Partick Thistle and Queen's Park would not accept that Glasgow is a two-club city.
In France there's only one city that can qualify as a two-club city, and that's Paris (P.S.G. and Paris FC) and that's only a fairly recent phenomenon. I'm absolutely certain that they've not been relegated at the same time from the same division. Italy has Rome and Milan that qualify, nowhere else that I can think of. Budapest in Hungary (Ferencváros and Újpest) . I think maybe Berlin in Germany. Spain's got three that I know of: Madrid, Sevilla, Barcelona. Lisbon in Portugal. Athens too (I think).
Any answers from someone who's really geeky about this sort of thing? Could Sheffield be a first ever, in Europe ?!
I tried Wiki-ing it, but unsurprisingly, nothing came up. Also unsurprisingly, I'm not exactly very busy this evening. Need to get out more…
Edinburgh City say hello backNottingham, Stoke on Trent, Edinburgh, Genoa and Turin say hello.
I recall recently both Hibs and Hearts went down the same season

Probably loads of others too in lesser known leagues.Nottingham, Stoke on Trent, Edinburgh, Hamburg, Munich, Porto, Genoa and Turin say hello.

Edit yes just checked, both went down 2013/14 - Hearts went straight down and Hibs lost the play off so went down

For example Prague has quite a few teams and, apart from Slavia and Sparta, they tend to be yo-yo clubs. It's likely that any 2 of them went down in the same season at some point.
They are indeed wankers, especially after the main stand antics at the old ground. That said, Lampard is a top guy and was a great pro at City and always so respectful of our club.Wankers!
Their pervious ground was in Hanley!I also admit I'm surprised to learn that Port Vale is in Burslem. I've never been anywhere near it, and always just assumed there was a town called Port Vale, and that it was quite distinct from Stoke.
