It was such a strange appointment with Mason. After sacking Mowbray & signing Mason, the club made it known that they had identified Mason as their No1 choice since the new owner had taken over the club. It took them a year to get him & I think it kind of painted themselves into a corner in having to keep backing Mason when he has been struggling for months. I think they honestly were desperate for him to succeed, but it was a huge gamble to put so much hope on a first time rookie manager to be able to get the club into the playoffs/promotion contention. There are not many successful first time managers at this or maybe any level?I like that you took a chance on Mason after a few 'obvious' appointments. I just hope you don't fall back into the Mowbray trap again, though I doubt it after last time.
Issue is, you have to find somebody you can trust has the experience to get you out of a relegation fight (though I think you'll be fine, there's much worse teams than you in the league IMO) but also have long-term succession planning after this season. A tough task.
Carrick maybe? Somebody with league experience but still good potential to get even better.
I've seen Carsley linked which would be a good appointment but maybe too much of a risk to go from national to club level at such a pivotal time in the season.
The clubs owner & board are very inexperienced themselves at running a football club & it shows. They have to get the next appointment right. It will be interesting times ahead, as usual.
