Referees' Performances | 2025/26

I'm not saying there is an agenda as such either but we definitely get reffed differently..we usually get the first yellow card even though the opposition have done more fouls.
We tend to get fouled and refs let it go ( usually as we still retain the ball but often the free kick would be a better option)
Had a Quick Look on Flashscore and according to them only 5 of the last 16 games we’ve had the first player booking .
That’s as far as my in depth analysis goes

Whilst I can find plenty of fault in the officiating of the modern game, from the rulebook to application on the field, I think this past weekend also gives us an insight into the pressure and stress officials, and their families, are facing constantly.

All this deflection, blame, accusations, from pundits, Liverpool fans, journalists, the manager, it must have a huge effect. For essentially what was a correct decision, a demonstrably correct decision. The fallout, the discussion, the ridiculous and borderline criminal comments posted online on some areas... When we say the games gone we also need to recognise that so have some fans' heads.

It's easier to say when it's not us feeling wronged, and there will still be plenty of decisions I'm furious with this season I am sure, but a taster also of the overreaction and emotive blackmail that follows football that we would do well to bear in mind.

If Haaland was officiated the same as others then he's get a penalty almost every corner, but he's a big lad so a push and a grab is fine apparently. If we were given a free kick instead of playing on, because it's city and city like possession is the stereotype, we'd break up more opposition attacks and get an extra rest in game. If 8 seconds meant 8 seconds for everyone then we'd have less to moan about. But if Pep has taught us anything, it's to rise above it. Win despite the variables. Show them all you're a winner by controlling what you do and do it to your highest standard.

But this huge overreaction need to be highlighted and called out, and the media has a leading role to play here, every bit as much as the original decision. The fact that it is louder then it is certain clubs feeling aggrieved, doesn't help at all and honestly just comes across as being a sore loser.

The huge over reaction is to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Always seems we have first player booked ..mind you my memory not great lol
That’s one of those things most sets of fans think because they only pay attention to it when it happens and they’re the ones that stick in their heads.

Every set of fans think their team is hard done to when it comes to the officials and decisions in games. Every fans’ forum across all clubs’ fanbases has a thread moaning about all the things that go against them.

So why was VAR allowed to re-referee that abomination of a goal in the Derby?
They dint! On field ref Atwell decided that Rashford wasn't interfering with play and over ruled Darren McCann the Lino when he flagged offside after the goal was scored The question was why did McCann delay his flag as he was clearly offside Maybe Atwell did check with VAR as to whether Rashford actually touched the ball

There is 2 seconds from Robertson pushing GD & the ball hitting the back of the net. Incredible that Doku was able to play him offside from this position. It’s pure gas lighting by the Liverpool Lobby.
..and this is straight out of arsenals playbook. No intention of getting to the ball, only intent on impeding/obstructing the keeper.I wonder why we can’t try that?!….I think we all know what would happen if we did.

We did at Wolves last season.
Well,we should do it more then!I suspect, that if we were benefiting from such tactics,as much as arsenal are, then the noise from the media would all be about how the refs are ignoring such blatant foul play.Put me in the loony file,by all means,..but they’ve made me like this!

The media create and then feed off the controversy. Jim White on TS this morning to Danny Mills 'Do Liverpool need put back in their box regarding this appeal'. Its still being talked about.

At the moment Van Dijk heads the ball, Robertson is next to Donnarumma affecting his ability to dive for the ball (see the photo below from MOTD). I think that LFC were wrong to complain about this. I can accept that the decision is open to interpretation but it's not a clearly incorrect decision. I think it was an offside offence.

The wording of the law is that an offside offence includes when a player is 'making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball'.

Its quite unbelievable how this as caused a controversy....its one of the most blatant offside you are likely to see.

And I would argue to my grave with any scouse twat that thought otherwise. If it was on us, I would not have a problem, just like Ake/Akanji vs Fulham....which should have been ruled out.

The rules written are ambiguous but my arguments.

The ball is heading straight at Robertson and he make a decision to "not play the ball". Anywhere else this is a "dummy". Bu not playing the ball, in playing distance, he is impacting the play.

2nd......if Donnarumma didnt dive, knowing Robertson was offside, and the ball hitting him would result in an offside call/ not go in, the duck again interfers in the play. The dive....in an attempt to make a save is being used as a "get out".

Would be interesting to see what the reaction would have been if he didn't dive.

All in all...the scouse cunts need to stop crying and everyone else use thier common sense.

This is a frame prior, he’s clearly holding GD.

Thought Kavanagh was the best ref we've had all season. Actually got free-kicks for shirt pulling and being man handled. Only gripe at the time was I thought Gravenberch should've had a yellow for persistent offences.

If Robertson didn't duck what would have happened? The ball would have hit him and the flag would have raised for an offside. By ducking he impacts on Donnarumma's actions, whether he would have saved the ball or not is 100% irrelevant. Wish they make this much fuss when others have goals ruled out...

As an ex goalkeeper, here are my two cents regarding the offside decision.

1) Can you position an opponent in an offside position next to the keeper, albeit out of the line of vision, and ask him to breakdance? Any movement can and will impact the keeper here, including the ducking movement.

2) Keepers dont usually dive to their left or to their right in a straight line, they tend to make a forward movement while doing so to cover as much possible area of the goal as possible. That option was not available to the keeper because of an interfering offside player.

At the point of VVD heading the ball(Pic1 below) Robertson clearly in offside position and in very close proximity to Don. So when in the "offside position" (and so close to Don) Robertson takes evasive action by ducking (pic 2). Totally understandable that the on pitch linesman calls it out and flags.

I think with the Bernardo one at the exact point of the "offside position" Bernardo had already moved away ie when the ball was in the air but before Stones had headed it.

All teams do it and it's annoying as fuck. Put your smallest player in front of the goalkeeper for no other reason than to obstruct him. He has no chance of winning the ball.

Ignoring the fact that it is fucking annoying and should always be penalised for obstruction, what Robertson didn't do, and what Silva did do last year, is get the hell out of the way sharpish when the ball is headed. If he had done that, it would have been a goal in all likelihood.

Short and fucking stupid then.
