Had a similar thread last year, was a good place to share and discuss albums that had an effect on people over the year.

If interested simply PM me a list of your top 10 albums of the year (they have to have been released in 2025) by Christmas eve. Of your top 10, no.1 gets 10 points, and down to no.10 getting 1.
And we'll see what the numbers spit out.

I'll try post it in score order by the end of the year or at some point over the festive break. Hoping for a top 50, depending on how many we get.

People are encouraged to discuss theit albums of 2025 on the thread itself, but the actual list is udually better sent via PM, for both a bit of suspense and ease of keeping track when adding all up.

I've been waiting for this. Should be fun.

I didn't really hear much from this year that I liked until the last few months and I might even be able to scrape 10 together now, including:-
  • A very good album from one of my favourite artists.
  • An album by a British band that I liked - I found it independently but later noticed that it had been mentioned on the new music thread.
  • A good return from a former winner of our album of the year a few years back (you probably know who this is).
  • A clear best of the year for me - an artist that I'd head of but never investigated
I suppose it's going to be hard to discuss stuff without giving away our favourites.

I am similar, last year I struggled to narrow it down to 10. This year I struggled to pull together 10, a few which wouldn't gave got into last year's 20! The final third of the year made a difference.

It is fine to discuss them and name them, we saw that last year. There is no real secrecy and the final list shape is still left a bit unknown.

I suppose we can use the next few weeks as a good place to lobby others in the hope of boosting our favourites up the final list, and introducing others to gems they've missed, of course :)

In which case, if people haven't heard it, they should go and listen to The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 by Lord Huron

Can’t say it’s been the best year for music this year but some decent bits here and there for me.
My #1 is from an Artist that most on here would know with a great album (still not as good as his first though)
It was genuinely tough for me to find 10 I liked.

Seen them live a couple of months ago in Glasgow. Totally unprepared with almost no prior knowledge. Accompanied a friend who I owed a few gig buddy tokens to. Decent mood music. Meant to explore more so not a bad prompt.

Will expand more. Felt a bit indie by numbers, but there was a nice mood in the room. One of those, I both did and didn't want to rush to look for more. Could be something that with a bit of time clicks into place, or could also be that it worked on the night but take it out of context ot disappoints. Enough time has now passed to remove expectation. Didn't help that the support band (Mid Atlantic, had to look that up they were that forgettable) were pap.

I'll say it's a nice blend of Indie and Americana. Some of the hooks and melodies are sublime, which is what keep me coming back, alongside those slower songs that will seep in over time.

That's the thing about this thread, prompts people to give stuff a go. I'm only basing this on the one experience and no more, but reminded me a lot of the Boxer Rebellion.

That reminds me, I really need to listen to Rosalia's new album. It's supposed to be incredible.

I've listened to fuck all this year. Just had a quick look at the Metacritic Top albums of the year, and I see Deftones have got a new one out. And Perfume Genius. And Little Simz. And Bon Iver. I'd better get on it.

Not been a great year for decent albums but Tremor by Daniel Avery is quality. Also like the soundtrack to 28 years later by young fathers.

Anyone can pick 5, 3, 8 however many they fancy really. Nobody has to fill all 10. Top 1 will still get 10pts, 2 9 etc.

Makes sense to me, I think I've got 8 worthy of 'points' albeit this year a number aren't rock and I think last year most of them were.
