I'm usually good with dates / gigs / games but can't place this at all.If that's the Sunday night gig around 2000 I was in that boozer trying to score a ticket.
Breezed through the stage door once the band had started and found myself in 'the wings' about ten feet away from Mani.
Might have been the same night Mani slapped Gillespie for pissing about.

Remember him being in the commercial one Saturday afternoon and getting plenty of attention but had time and pics for everyone Somebody put a roses tune on the jukebox , he just started laughing and said " you’re having a fuckin laugh "Sad news when i heard it on the radio earlier. I met him a few times in The Best o' Brass in Mossley 10 to 15 years ago when he drank with his mate who lived in the town. He liked drinking there because he got no mither from those fawning over him and he didn't get pestered for his autograph, unlike most places in town when he was recognised. We talked music and football and had blue-red banter several times and he took being called a dirty rag well. Lol.
Mani was a decent down to earth ordinary guy who got famous as a bassist in a famous band, but he had had no Billy big bollocks airs and graces about him or i wouldn't have spoken to him again if he had.
I really like the Stone Roses and he was not only a top base player but a sound guy. Gone far too soon and the Roses won't be the same without him, alas.
RIP Mani.
I never once saw anyone asking for a pic in Best O' Brass, probably why he said it was his favourite pub, especially when my mate's gf was landlady as she did an after time lock in most nights. Half of the pub, especially the older drinkers didn't know who he was nevermind know he was a famous musician, and Mani like the hassle free anonymity on a night out in there.Remember him being in the commercial one Saturday afternoon and getting plenty of attention but had time and pics for everyone Somebody put a roses tune on the jukebox , he just started laughing and said " you’re having a fuckin laugh "
Top bloke who seemed so grounded and sincere .
RIP Mani
One half of the best rhythm section of the last 50 years.
Always felt during the reunion that Brown wanted the money, Squire missed playing big stages, Reni was there reluctantly but Mani just seemed ecstatic to be playing with his mates again.
I went on holiday to Morocco a couple of weeks ago and met a woman on the plane who lived in same town i was going to two hours drive south of Agadir. I wasn't hitting on her as she said she was married but before departing the plane she gave me her number and said ring her to meet her and her hubby in a bar in town, so i did. Really nice Manchester couple who invited me to theirs for meals and drinks. We spoke about football(she's a blue he's a red) and we talked about music and the Madchester scene back ine the day.Really fuckin sad! Yesterday I was at a close mates funeral that finished with Waterfall. Came out of the funeral mid afternoon and my mate sent me a link about him doing a stint at The Salty dog in Northwich. I thought I'll have that! An hour later it broke that he'd passed away, it was the only topic of conversation from that point on. Terrible news. I was fortunate to meet him a few times(weirdly at 2 funerals of Moston lads) and he really was tha most genuine nicest none show bizz lad you'd ever meet,an absolute gentleman! I was having a good chat about music at the bar and my mate shouts "Dont talk to that bitter blue bastard Mani" Mani shouted back, "You've never been near O** Tr***** so don't you fuckin start". Funny as fuck! I knew his wife Emelda too back in the day who was good as gold. Those poor kids, just heartbreaking. RIP Mani. A true Manc legend. X

Wasn’t Dooley by any chance ?I never once saw anyone asking for a pic in Best O' Brass, probably why he said it was his favourite pub, especially when my mate's gf was landlady as she did an after time lock in most nights. Thinking back i could have asked him for a pic but it never crossed my mind at the time. I spoke to him like anyone else really, just one of the lads minding his own business who liked to chat and have a laugh and a few beers with local drinkers. Although the pub is no longer open I'll raise a glass to him later wherever I'm having a pint.
No.Wasn’t Dooley by any chance ?
