Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

That was as bad as it gets.
Tin hat on but in my opinion Savinho,Lewis,Bobb and Marmoush are fighting for their City futures.
.
They would have had a better chance if just two had started rather than all four. Bobb started really well but then became invisible. I really want him to succeed but think he is struggling with senior football. In his case maybe a loan is exactly what is needed.

I think you're right about three of them but I'm of the opinion that Marmoush can play a bit. He needs game time and service. In the first half he made plenty of runs but none of his team mates picked him out....

We are better than that, Glory Hunters are welcome but should never be heard
Ancoats, I’ve spoken to many City fans, some my family, over the past season or so and they’re most certainly aren’t so called Glory Hunters, they too have questioned whether Guardiola has run his course at City. Not because of one or two defeats, but several matches of no plan b, wrong team selection, not owning up to being in the wrong, like last night. I wouldn’t say I’m in agreement with them but I don’t think he’s barred from criticism.

I'm keeping my glass half full. I say Pep has learned a valuable lesson and a lot about his squad from last nights 'performance'. I think we'll go out and beat Leeds handily at the weekend to prove a point and the big man will get back amongst the goals. Thats what I keep telling myself anyway....

thought he owned upto what happened last night?

That shit show was solely down to Pep, you can't take liberties like that in the champions League, that team should be reserved for a league one team in the Carabao cup, I'm only pissed off that I didn't take the 8/1 on offer for a Leverkusen win ffs

Being shite and being arrogant but then also shite are two very different things, which is why I think so many of us are furious. And like others, I just woke up and rather than moving on as I always have I’m still annoyed by that team selection.
I agree. I sat in the south stand last night cold and pissed off at what I witnessed. All on the manager for me. He picked that starting 11, then did nothing to change it even when it was clearly not working. And then finally to leave Savinho on the whole game was ridiculous. I can take not winning(started supporting us in the mid 90s), but what really hit home last night is just how much money has been wasted. Trafford, savinho, Marmoush. Khusanov I think has something, but we massively over paid. Ait Nouri I know it's early days but he's looked dreadful every game he's started, same with Reijnders barring Wolves away. Nico G has improved, but hes still way below the standards of Rodri, Fernandinho and even Gareth Barry IMO. We have no chance of winning this competition this year so as annoying as that result was it probably has no baring on the season as a whole other than we'll probably have 2 extra games in February, it was just a real eye opener to how much dross is in the squad.

I would like to think we could take care of Leeds regardless of last night's shenanigans. I have to agree though, he has hopefully learned a lot about some of the squad. Some aren't up to it and a few need to get a grip and start showing up. We haven't enough quality players up pick up the slack of others like we had in seasons gone by.

Totally this. We've lost our way, we're just a bit mediocre? I fear we will become a bit like Chelsea have been these past 10-years, sort of 'thereabouts' without ever really being 'in it'? Maybe this is inevitable after such a period of sustained success but the drop-off in squad quality & depth and performance is quite staggering.

Definitely makes you realize how good we've had it the last 10 years or so

It was a 2nd XI. The first XI beat Liverpool and Man Utd comprehensively.

Why are so many fans focusing on Savinho? He was no better or worse than anyone else. Ait Nouri has barely played due to injury. Rodri, Fernandinho and Barry are 3 of the best midfielders who have ever played in the Premier League and you are using them as a benchmark for Gonzalez who was not intended to replace Rodri but to act as cover.

Dross really isn't fair is it? You don't get away with playing a 2nd XI in the Champions League especially when that XI goes out and plays tippy tappy nervous football for 45 minutes.

I agreed with your point about it being on Pep. I got that team selection and I was gutted when I read it. I knew what would happen and I think what is making so many City fans mad is that it was senseless. We've needlessly put ourselves under pressure now.

If there was another top manager available at this moment, I would want Pep out but there isn't and the fact is that he's like Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde. Most times we get wonderful Pep but every now and then we get some stupid unfathomable decisions

Have we in any era been able to field a 2nd XI and get away with it at this level?

I maintain that if you add Rodri to the current first XI, City have a side that is good enough to challenge for the title.

The comments that we are not as good as we were are stupid. There is no like for like comparison. We did not play our first XI vs Leverkusen and lose. What's annoying is that Pep thought he could do this and get a result

Those players definitely got a bollocking last night both at half time and full time. I think that he was trying to say that without throwing them under the bus.
I would not expect a midfield of Reijnders, Gonzalez and Rico to dominate Leverkusen. Pep threw us all under the bus and the really maddening thing about it is that no one can figure out the why. Pep's own explanations about being fair to the squad are ridiculous and unbelievable.

I think last night convinced me that Bobb, Lewis and Ait-nouri just aren't up to it.
Added to this I think Ake, Stones need binning. Every attack came to a complete halt once our 2 centre halfs became involved.
Reijnders and Marmoush both appear to be going backwards very quickly.
