I mean I hope you're right, but Mahrez was Player of the Year in a title winning team before he joined us. Semenyo is a player who's done a good job at a side that finished 9th.

It's not unheard of for a player like that to flourish at a bigger team though. If you're looking for an equivalent, it'd be Sadio Mane when he went to Liverpool from Southampton. A couple of seasons getting 10 to 15 goals for a mid table side who went from strength to strength when he joined a top team, scoring over 20 in four out of his six seasons at the scousers.

Ultimately it’s come down to this because the forwards aside Haaland are not producing enough. It’s a tough sport with an even tougher schedule. If you can’t do the job someone else will. Semenyo is needed because Savio, Bobb have not done enough. Talent can take you far but if the numbers and performances don’t match then clubs competing at top level won’t wait, they will get someone who can try and get the numbers.

We have done well in terms of rebuilding this squad for what was possible in one summer. Another summer or two and then we will have our club winning silverware again I have no doubt.

Semenyo has his flaws, but right now his profile is what a lot of top clubs want. Physicality and legs are a big requirement in this league, you need to ride challenges, carry the ball and dig in when necessary. Semenyo has shown that quality at Bournemouth. How he translates that quality to our team is a question mark, but we have to take that gamble because other clubs are constantly improving and we can’t fall behind.

My only concern this season aside wingers not performing has been Marmoush, prior to his injury he did not really score bar the cup game. Wonder what his future at the club is, if things are to continue this way.

I think Semenyo hasnt even peaked yet mate and would go up 2-3 levels with better coaching from Pep and playing with better players fighting for titles. He has pace, power and can score goals, something Savinho just isnt going to do.

Not just them, even Doku. He's been a beast at times this season, and rightly made people think he could be ready to become a world class player, but the fact is that he's only got 1 goal and 3 assists in 13 games. Not that we should judge a player exclusively on stats, because he's torn defences apart at times this season, but we do need more players to be chipping in with goals and assists.

All might come good down the road, and many may not.

I think they will both be good enough.
And there are many posters here who have yearned for players that left us when they were young, and used the release of those players as a whipping tool against club recruitment policy - Rogers and Frimpong as just two examples.

We have to allow young players to develop, and they can only develop if they play.
In the case of a player like Reis, he is doing exceptionally well playing every week in a team with lower expectations, but he is doing it against world-level teams.

In the case of Savinho and Bobb, I expect that they will be cover for Cherki and Doku, so we need to accept that we will have squad players AND superstars. All are young enough and skilled enough to develop to a higher level, IMO.

You are either a very good judge of a player, or a very bad one.

Time will tell.

I'll be honest. I'm not sure how he would cope against the parked buses that we regularly face. He didn't seem to have the dribbling skills that someone like Doku possesses.

Having said that, I'm sure I'm missing something that the rest of you see in him.

Marmoush was excellent after coming over from Frankfurt last season. I have no doubts about his quality, but he needs to actually get enough minutes to sharpen up.

He isn’t but he’s better than what we have at the moment. For me it depends on whether we still go after another top level winger in the summer. If we do then great bring him in and he can play more now and then be a squad player who boosts our firepower / numbers and allows us to rotate more without the level dropping as much the way we used to. But he can’t be coming in if we would then have no intention to fuck off Savinho & Bobb and Semenyo being the main starting wing target to cover next season too.

On Mahrez, the only player who has got better in the eyes of a lot of our fans since he left. A fair number of our fans including match going fans did nothing but moan about him when we had him. He was always top class but he was imo judged by not being *quite* as good as some of the other attackers e.g Aguero, Haaland, KDB, D Silva. When you look at us since Mahrez left those who moaned about him have now very much realised what we had.
