Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

What if you get 6 points out of 6 in those two games?

We did win didn’t we? Just that reading the forum seems like we lost.
I think cause most people can't ignore the obvious. We were fantastic in the final third and it was great to watch. However, our defending and midfield was a car crash again and you just can't ignore that moving forward.

I don't think you've remembered that correctly. We were down to 10 men for almost the entire game against Fulham during the treble season and the lads ran through brick walls to get that 2-1 win over the line.

Lots of praise in particular for KDB and Bernardo.

Im getting old then. Particular remember one game where we won last minute and people on here were furious.

Better example then would be the 6-3 game against the rags. They scored 2 late goals and the post match thread was furious. I think I'm definitely certain on that one.

While we are starting to find our rhythm again going forward, Phil has the spring back in his step, I feel we are just so open down the flanks. Our full backs are midfielders so naturally they drift inside looking for the ball which leaves us exposed.

You don't replace a Kyle Walker, and certainly not with a midfielder, no matter how much he improves. Rayan Aït-Nouri needs to be starting every week and we need to buy a right back in January to shore up the defence.

Our full backs is like asking a bricklayer to rewire your house !!

Bold prediction but I think we will be top of the league going into the New Year.
Ait-Nouri is unlikely to improve us defensively unless it's part of a plan to move O'Reilly into midfield. I am not too worried as we took off Gonzalez at 5-1 and we have Rodri coming back soon (fingers crossed).

Our team has no left back no right back plus project players!

At moment we have Donno O’Reily Gonzales Doku Haaland the rest are passive who are great when we are possession team!

When you break it down, it's only 2 centre-backs holding the back line together that can not be right
Nunes and O’Reilly makes so many mistakes, in a way it's not their fault and the blame has to lie at Pep's door.
The right back when we had Walker was key to everything with his pace and he covered the whole pitch in a flash

Also, what is this turning your back on shots when defending ?? looks ugly and lacks commitment

I’m no ignoring it, it’s been happening all season and all last season. Tends to happen when you don’t actually have a settled midfield or defence.
We just need to muddle through until we start getting our defensive mids back.

Then you weren't looking. Plenty over the past 3 years moaning at how boring it was to watch City and something needed to change. Plenty wanting Pep to leave because of it.
Some were, not plenty. Like I said the complaints weren't about the possession, it was what we did with it.I know it's difficult for you that anyone dares criticise the team, Pep, performances etc. but it's not the end of the world.

We're a work in progress.

One year into a complete rebuild.

Its going to take time and we'll have good games, bad games and crazy games.

Ive no doubt the club will bring in a DM, I hope its the winter but more likely the summer.

Will the fullback positions ever fully be fixed? Always at least one side has a midfielder filling in.

I think turning the back was to try and block without it hitting the arm and giving the refs the opportunity to fuck us.

Totally weird game and having now recovered from a long coach journey and sleep all over the place, I've had time to reflect

Fulham didn't deserve to be 3-0 down and would have been completely disheartened if we'd got to Half Time without that silly mistake
Similarly there was so much time remaining at 5-1 that we just needed to run the clock down and take some minutes out of the game.

However that's where we miss Rodri
So much doesn't happen when he's there.

We don't lose possession in silly areas
We don't take the ball down blind alleys.
We don't concede as many set pieces
We don't look vulnerable when defending set pieces
We don't panic

I was absolutely livid we conceded before halftime.
We go in at 3-0 that second half performance doesn’t happen imo.
I know we scored early doors second half, but I was never, ever comfortable.

O'Reilly does not make many mistakes, and Nunes is super quick.

Isn't the more obvious explanation that we are missing Rodri and that last night the goals started to go into our net after we took off our defensive midfielder?

Hitherto, our defensive record was decent, but we rarely have control of games for 90 minutes. We have a tendency to play for 45 minutes. I can't really explain why that is.

I criticise plenty.

I didnt understand or agree with taking Nico off but I understand if he was injured or at risk of one. I think we should have got another DM as gambling again on Rodri being fit was too far a risk. But I understand the club thought Kovacic would be back and Nico and Reijnders would help out. I thought Donnarumma would be a risk because of his flapping at crosses and kicking ability. I had no reason to doubt his kicking but his flapping caused problems last night.

in terms of last night i didnt understand how we look so knackered in the 2nd half of games but then some players are ageing or being run into the ground.

We're not the team of old but in year one of a rebuild of the premier leagues greatest ever team and I know it will take time.

i can criticise but I can put it in context and i dont go over the top and say everything is shit like plenty do on here.

Yep. We badly need him back. Or another DM and can see why we're being linked to Anderson.

May I suggest you look at the 2-minute clip on the OS - Fulham's second half goals came from OUR left side - Nunes doesn't play on that side so perhaps the criticism should be levelled at O'Reilly
Yeh probably mate it just seemed that they almost always attacked their left and nunes despite not being a defender and having a brain fart a game has been doing reasonably well. Tbh I think I expect too much after seeing us dominate the league for so long.
I will never be in the camp of its 3 points regardless of how we play but do accept that I think pep’s time is almost up.
He’s just too good a manager to oversee
this current team and not learn from our mistakes. We will finish top 4 and I think as soon as the 115 thing is sorted the rumours of pep’s reign being over will start to surface. We definitely need a new playing style if we are to continue challenging every season. I don’t know who comes in but whoever it is I hope the sort the scouting out as our recruitment has been a total failure
With the exception of maybe cherki.

Anyway onwards we go with this roller coaster of a season and I’ll say it again if arsenal don’t win it this season they never will.

Three points and five goals, fucking fantastic!

But wtf is wrong with us, letting them almost snatch a point from 5-1 down? Concentration? Fitness?
My mate's auntie's cousin's friend works as a cleaner for Pep and she said she was speaking to him about it last night and apparently everyone else in his FPL mini league had triple City defence.

Could have been a 5-8 scoreline!

Perhaps this is the game where Pep starts to seriously consider two DMs. We have to get control of the middle when the momentum shifts. It does naturally during a game, but this season I've noticed long periods of the team being stressed and under the pump. A couple of years ago the opposition would have a two/three minute spell of having a go, and we'd quickly administer a slap around the chops. Not anymore.

But a win's a win. Well done fellas.

Half time seems to be an issue, pep is being out coached at half time and we see the opposition cone out the stronger team, and weekly we seemed shocked, as though we were just going to coast the second half.
