26 | Savinho - 2025/26

May as well play with 10 men as bring Savinho on. The only defence against this is that he managed to get a cross in, but apart from that his contribution was zero.

I refuse to believe that Kalvin Phillips wouldn't have been a better option than Savinho last night.
According to Pep, "Savio's incredible cross".
Worryingly.

I know, I'm really confused about the Marmoush treatment in particular. Savinho seems like a blind spot for him

Seems like he's keen to teach Savinho a Grealish-style ball holding, passing, width keeping role. The fact he's 21 means he'd probably find it easier to adapt his game than a 26 year old Marmoush.

Think he sees Marmoush as a goal threat coming inside and Bobb as solely an edge of box dribbler, from how he uses them.

I don't understand how we can have watched the same game if that's what you saw. He comes on while the whole team is going to shit and we get none of the ball, he sets up Haaland for what should be an easy goal, he otherwise has little chance to do anything other than try and get us up the pitch when we're under pressure.

He wasn't responsible for any of the 4 disgraceful goals we conceded. Yet you abuse him.

I hope he does leave, his card is marked with the fans now and his confidence is shot. But it's not justified tonight
I think you need to re watch the match,if you don't think he was responsible for any of the Fulham goals.

It's weird how Pep won't hesitate to blow out new signings Khusanov/Nico G/Marmoush/Kalvin Phillips/Nunes etc, and they can go considerable time without getting a game, yet Savinho keeps getting picked every week, either starting or coming on despite being poor.
I think Savinho doesn't get as many minutes as we think he does, it just seems like it.
I was at the dentist recently.
It felt like hours but was closer to 20 minutes.
He played the Leverkeusen match but didn't start any of our last 3 league games, played 15 mins at Newcastle and none at all against Leeds.
Marmoush, Bobb and Cherki not getting much time either.
Pep hasn't made his mind up on any of them.

its getting close to the point that he has no future at the club...he has the second half of the season to try and save his place in the club but if he doesnt improve rapidly and significantly we should be looking to offload him.....he has been nothing short of terrible.

He’s got 18 months, unless someone comes in with a seriously strong bid this Summer, to prove he can be SOMEONE at City. Pep will be leaving and I just can’t see any other serious manager putting up with him!

If we are relying on savinho to come good then we are in real trouble as he is nowhere near our level .

The thing is Jeremy is our first choice left winger and deservedly so.

People were hating on him yesterday that he lost the ball 15 times or something, but he was the only one really pushing passes/ crosses and trying to make things happen while the rest of the team was side to side. And he got 2 assists for it!

Now that begs the question if our left wing is set.. who is our right winger?

Isn't that somewhere Savinho should play or is he job just to relieve Jeremy after the business is done and try and cross to Haaland for a few insurance goals?

Other than that I can't think of what he offers.. but maybe Pep sees something that needs time

I think your mind is made up on this one mate. I'd just develop him and if he's 23 and shows no progress, fine give up on him.
This is the problem, Savinho is getting game time that massively exceeds his contribution. To the point where it's starting to look like a special project and the whole team is suffering.

I just think Pep is trying to give him a big show of support and vote of confidence.

Ironically if everyone could manager not to jeer, boo and abuse him online it might be less necessary.

Plus would Marmoush or Bobb really offer that much more? Pep is sticking with the youngest one with the highest potential even though he's pretty off form.

Yes.

On the basis that they couldn't offer less.

Time and Again Savinho is the oppositions best defender by giving the ball away. And then he puts in one good cross and we're supposed to forgive everything else. In the meantime other similar profile players get 5 minutes or get dropped from the squad.

Off Form? When has been on form?

Savinho is better at progressing the ball up the pitch at pace than Bobb and he's better at passing and holding the ball than Marmoush.

That's why he comes on in these situations. I wouldn't say he's an ideal player to use like that, especially out of form and low on confidence, but it seems perfectly reasonable for Pep to see him as the best fit for that long term.
