26 | Savinho - 2025/26

I don't understand why people say Savinho is lazy. From what I can see he tries to do a lot on the pitch, hes very active.

Think it’s more to do with closing the ball down. He doesn’t bust a gut to deny the opposition space.
He’s also very weak in challenges, to be fair he’s not the only one.
I still hope he’ll come good but I’m not sure he’ll hang around if he’s a bit part player, especially if other offers come in for him.

Because then you get to slag him off. And you can say "all I want a player to do is work hard". Calmly ignoring players like Nunes work incredibly hard and he was still the old whipping boy with a thread full of just random insults and shite one liners.

One player thread has to be like Bluemoon's stress ball at any time.

I know. No-one ever is. However, based on their respective performances over the last two seasons, he’s got to be a better bet than Savinho
Not really. Girona finished in the Champions League places with Savinho being one of their outstanding players. Savinho cost us half what Semenyo is going to cost us. We also have Marmoush trying to establish himself.

Yeah he's not lazy, he does put a lot of effort, but he quite often switches off defensively. Don't think it's laziness, just a mental thing. He also loses a lot of challenges, which isn't really a surprise given his stature. It's frustrating though because he tried to buy fouls rather than compete for the ball and it pretty much never works. If you're doing both of those things as a winger you need to be producing up the other end or folk will get on your back.

Body language when he appears to be getting a dressing down doesn't send a great message - looks like he's got a right sulk on :(
I can't remember where but I saw video of that incident and this is just a misleading still image of what Pep often does at the end of the game - some somewhat animated coaching on the pitch.

Savinho is better at progressing the ball up the pitch at pace than Bobb and he's better at passing and holding the ball than Marmoush.

That's why he comes on in these situations. I wouldn't say he's an ideal player to use like that, especially out of form and low on confidence, but it seems perfectly reasonable for Pep to see him as the best fit for that long term.

I'm inclined to say that Savinho is a better player than both Bobb and Marmoush. That said, I don’t think any of them should be at City as they're simply not good enough.

He's not lazy when he's got the ball but is a hinderance without it. He's a wimp more than lazy. Doesnt want to block the ball as it might hurt and shits out of any challenge.

If you truly believe Savinho is a better bet than Semenyo, in either the short or long term, then good luck to you

It’s getting a bit Richard Edgehill with him. I can’t think of any set of circumstances in which he comes on tomorrow and the reaction is positive

If he comes on and we need a goal, people would rather Marmoush. If he comes on when we are winning and plays anything like he did V Fulham the ground will get very nervy and he will cop for it

I don’t rate him but the way it’s going is problematic - keep him on the bench and just play him away from home for a few weeks and hope he perks up. Brentford at home in the league cup might help him

Nowhere near good enough and our play is noticeably negatively affected when he comes on. I don't know how he's getting so much time.
It's ridiculous how he keeps coming on...

I am beginning think Savinho has a clause in his contract about mimimum appearances / playing time - i just can't understand how he is constantly given game time despite his performances or lack of !
He is right there with Eric Garcia as the worst players to get meaningful time under Pep.
