Salford Red Devils wound up by HMRC

The new stadium was perfectly located. Right on the M60. If the trafford centre can take 250,000 people over a weekend, then the AJ Bell stadium can take 10,000 easily. You couldn't get a more accessible location for a stadium. Walking distance from the tram stop at the Trafford centre. A massive car park all the way round it as well. It's gone tits up because the interest isn't there. People aren't bothered enough to watch Rugby league, and that is why so many clubs struggle to stay alive. The interest from younger generations is dwindling. And can you blame them with the draw of football available right on their doorstep.
But its not in the heart of Salford like the Willows was! I have lived less than half a mile from the Willows all my life, and went once! That was because I was one of the lucky lads in Salford that had a dad who was there and bought his son a season ticket for City so Rugby League wasn't important to me! None of my mates were as lucky as me, so they used to save up/blag their way into the Willows to be part of something and be proud of Salford, At a stadium that they could see from their front door and school playground!

The Willows was perfectly located, The AJ Bell is located next to a human waste plant!

150 years of memories and community gone? or a perfectly located stadium? What would you chose mate?

The ground arrangements are weird.

Swinton play at Sale. Sale play at Salford. Salford now looking to re-start.

It wasn’t long ago that the council bought the stadium to safeguard the future or that was the intention.

As someone from Weaste, I can tell you the majority of the locals did not want it moved from the Willows. - Not that what you're saying is wrong, I just think the heart of the club was ripped out and implanted in Barton/Irlam/Trafford whichever you wanna call it. - But again, I do agree with especially the latter part of waht you're saying.
I'm from Weaste also mate, and now live on the other Side of Buile Hill Park, Salford Council screwed John Wilkinson because he wanted the best for the Weaste area (hence why he was never allowed to buy Buile Hill mansion)! That was the start of the end for Salford RL, but the spirit of Salford will bring it back! Rugby League is so important to the history of Salford. That why Scousers and Mancs dont have the bottle to play it!

I disagree mate, i think Moor Lane is Prestwhich/Higher Broughton?

either way that rat faced shit stain will sell it very soon for millions and pay the absolute minimum to play at the AJ Bell! The horrible **** will make money out of Salford RL's demise one way or the other!

He probably cant spell Socialism, never mind know what it means! He should go in the Priory pub in Salford and ask the remaining Docker about socialism! I did it as a young Salford blue (who votes tory) and got educated with stories about being a socialist and life, and I loved it!

Gary Neville complained about Union Jack flags being on flown just outside the Priory pub!
I’ll go along with Higher Broughton but never Prestwich as that is in the borough of Bury and ground is definitely in Salford

There is a fascinating documentary about Notts County, (the oldest ever English Football Club) on Sky called 'King of Lies'. Its all about about when Sven Goran Ericksson and Sol Cambell were completed duped by con men claiming to be billionaires who had bought Notts County because of their history!

They were potless and were scamming the North Korean Goverment at the same time, They even convinced gormless Sven to travel to North Korea and give the National team a coaching advice before the 2010 world cup!

Back to on topic tho! its fucking heartbreaking how these faceless con men can hide behind skint companies, and erase 150 years of community history in one season!

I'd rather live in a cardboard box with morals, than live in a mansion with the conscience of them parasites!

I think I will search that out and have a look at it, sounds interesting.

Perfectly located for who? The traditional fan base that walked from Weaste and Langworthy to The Willows?
Only because the Inn of Good Hope was shut due to the latest shooting!

The Willows was just like Maine Road! Full of characters and working class people who were fiercely proud of thier community!

I don't get them sames vibes at the Ethidad or AJ Bell Stdium!

Your a lot more educated than me, so your most certainly right mate!
I'm sure that we can both agree tho, that Neville dosen't have the right to call himself a Socialist!

He isn't eligible until next year.

They aren't competing with the football teams though are they?
Your spot on there! The Ammies were always an amateur team (that played in Orange) and gave a massive platform for Salford Lads to get scouted! Salford have never needed a football team to be used as a vanity project! It needed Neville, Fred Done or any of the other class of 92 millionaire's to invest £2m to keep a bit of Salford RL's 150 year history alive!

Salford Reds? They dont know the meaning if the word loyalty or community!

My point was that he has raised £10m for charity in 3 years mate!

Imagine doing Kevin Sinfield out of a Knighthood on a technicality!

Your a bad nob head pal!

Times change and as I said what the community cathedrals of the past all have in common is that they eventually die out, all factors taken into account this will happen to football grounds eventually starting with the sides that don't carry the big club tag who command an infinite amount of tourists.

So the huge stadium that everyone in an area is associated with will be a thing of the past soon and the next best thing will take its place, it's just a matter of time IMO.
Turn it in Pal and stop trying to cause an argument! Doffer is worried about poor historic clubs so don't let his concern offend you mate!

Salford Red Devils are a good club with plenty of fans, but they have been taken to the cleaners by the dodgy owners past and present. It could still be a very good club with the fans having a big say, with a fan-owned club
Correct mate, It will always be a club that the fans love!

A lot of my mates who have gone for years are overoptimistic that they can start again, There is a lot of money in construction with Salboy/ Domus and Media City at the moment!

Ooh! Name calling. Good riposte!

Doesn't alter the fact that he's not yet eligible. Or the fact that those rules apply to everyone.

The Salford fans just want their club back playing rugby. It's the owners chasing the money side of rugby with false claims with Super League dreams, Salford just want the basics back

Mmm...
Wonder which one Ratboy would choose, as Salford City F.C. will probably move in there,
as soon as they can...

So what is wrong with being a window cleaner? Some of the early footballers were painters, plasterers and possibly window cleaners. So what’s wrong with Rugby players being window cleaners? :-) ;-)
Peter Smethurst (ex-Swinton R.L. and later Oldham) was our window cleaner when I was a kid. My junior school was a hundred yards from the Station Road ground.

Do I miss Salford? Well, I recall seeing Swinton beat them 43-0 and 47-0 in the space of a few weeks (yes, I can remember the exact scores!), so I miss that about them. It's a matter of red and blue, like City & ******. And how about the members of a touring Australian R.L team who complained about where they were based and said, no kidding, "why can't we stay somewhere lively - like Swinton?" That was after their visit to the Wishing Well club on Station Road, if you remember the spot. :-)
