James McAtee joins Forest for an overall fee of £30m

he didn’t want to leave, but didn’t have much of a choice. his playing time was going to be limited and the club received an offer they couldn’t refuse.
My memory is that he refused a contract offer.
The club won't usually keep a player who refuses a new contract.

The current Brandon Barker regen. All the talent in the world, but nothing between the ears and no fire in the belly.

Will score the occasional amazing goal, but isn’t involved enough to be a top player.

A poor man’s Ferran Torres.

Don't get these knee jerk reactions with everything taken into account I'd call it all a tad bit premature, for those people already dismissive of McAtee reaching his early potential.
It's all because he hasn't played much there yet but you've gotta remember he's already had 3 managers in just 3 months, he also has two England internationals players in a similar position to him both who are clearly seen as Forest's best players.

Some on here are saying we've pulled their pants down but regardless of what happens whoever signed him would've had to pay £30m, that's purely based on his England u21 exploits and hype around him so honestly anything more than slightly less would've been a joke fee to receive.

Maybe most on here thought he'd be an immediate starter for them but that was never going to be an easy task there and totally underestimating them, Forest are actually stacked in the middle and could play decent football with the right manager, they should be doing better than they're based on their strong industrious midfield area alone.
They've got Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson as key players and although I've not noticed their captain Ryan Yates as much, he obviously plays around there too but they have Ibrahim Sangare as their main defensive midfielder, plus Forest also loaned Douglas Luiz this season who has played even less than McAtee.

His only chance of playing right now is ahead Elliot Anderson or Gibbs-White or the club captain and unless they expected one to leave, then it seems like a strange move from Forest to have signed James while knowing they have all these players in the engine room.
It's bizarre but the owner did stupidly fire Nuno Espirito Santo less than two weeks after he signed, maybe Nuno had big plans to incorporate James or a player of his ilk into his system, they then sacked Ange Postecoglu quickly and now have Dyche which has put McAtee at the back of the queue 3 times in just over 3 months.
It takes time and managers are always more likely to stick with the already established key players at their brand new club, with Forest's two best players and the club captain also occupying the main area McAtee wants to he'll obviously have to wait for his chance.

It's a shame he didn't go to Everton with the links he had there in the year before his left as I really think they'd have been perfect for him, Moyes probably would've worked wonders with him utilising him in an advanced role in the same way he did with Tim Cahill.
Instead though James will have to wait for his chance at Forest it's as simple as that, for me he has unfortunately joined the hardest team of his suitors to break into on paper.

There was no way McAtee was going to start ahead of two England international midfielders straight away, although it shouldn't be ruled out him being a key player for them at some point the long run, he'll have to wait until Elliot Anderson leaves (hopefully to us asap) and maybe Gibbs-White too if he leaves around the same time as Anderson.
Unfortunately for James both Anderson and Gibbs-White are just completely immoveable from Forest's team their most high profile players, while Ryan Yates being their captain makes him an immediate influential choice ahead too, plus with Dyche now in charge Yates being a 6ft3 physical player means he'll probably be preferred over McAtee.

They like to counter and with having Callum Hudson-Odoi Anthony Elanga and Omari Hutchinson out wide all quicker its unlikely he plays there, it's a weird move all round from Forest and all James McAtee can do is work hard wait for his turn and hope it comes, maybe they could try and play him up front as a false 9 instead of their lackluster strikers but Dyche will probably never go for that.

I think to those saying his stay there so far has proven he's not upto Prem level though or that we've pulled their pants down it's too soon, because Forest's management merry-go-round is an absolute joke you're commenting because he can't get into their team yet.
Again he's not getting picked over two of England's centre midfield choices immediately or their club captain, it's too early to judge him yet their managerial situation would've been hard for any player let alone a new one.

He's clearly got his work cut out for him McAtee that's obvious enough and maybe he will fail there, to those deeming him a failure already they could honestly be seriously jumping gun on this, with everything that's gone on there in his first 3 months at Forest he might be making them eat their words.

Delap needs to control his aggression.
Ridiculous in yesterday's match, spent the most of it it fighting with his marker and then gets injured in the process and has to go off
Did the same for our youth teams, especially against his former club Derby. It always seemed either personal or they just knew which buttons to press. He's still doing the stupid stuff now and I can't see him stopping, much as I like the rest of his game.

This was Liam Delap's biggest problem in the youths that I commented on the forum years ago, he's a hothead he needed to learn to control the aggression and channel it against his opponents, and that he also despite being massive didn't know how to properly utilise his big frame as a useful weapon.

There's nowt wrong with aggression he can be aggressive but not so emotionally aggressive, he's the sort of striker who should be bullying the centre backs the one who knows the dark arts, the one who makes defenders lash out and draws fouls with his strong frame.

He's naive I thought it was his biggest weakness at 17 and right now he should be a total brick shithouse, one with great hold up play who is a wind up merchant who never gets upset with the defenders marking him, he should genuinely be pissing his opponents off big time and giving them the toughest time possible.

I'm not saying I have a problem with it but he's definitely a bit of a prick...

He can't play in Anderson or Yates" roles. He's not an 8...

Him and Palmer always stood out by a mile in the academy side. Never thought there was that much between them in terms of ability, but the difference in their career trajectories since leaving the club has been mad.
Palmer always looked the better player imo.

I think McAtee had the numbers that we have seen plenty of our youth get.

But Palmer had the numbers and the clear ability that he was miles above everyone else, McAtee didn't show like that.

I thought Mcatee did & thought he’d possibly make an impact like David Silva. What we need to remember is Silva did his 2 years on loan for a tough lower league teams & then got straight into Valencia first team. Mcatee tried the same route but couldn’t force his way in although I felt he has quality he lacked the ability to impose himself on the game. I think he can still do it, hope he can but Silva spent 7 years at Valencia before he got the opportunity at City.

I still think the worst thing Mcatee did was stay at Sheffield United when they came up.

Such a poor move, made the easy choice. Should have followed the clubs request to go to a more footballing team.

He barely got a sniff on the ball and ended up being in one of the worst sides ever to play in the PL.

He learnt and developed nothing during that season. Might as well gone on holiday for a year.

I think with our younger players their temperament off the field as well as their attributes on the field are taken into account when we're making decisions who to keep and who to sell. Foden had his issues off the field, but because of his talents on the pitch and his potential to become a generational talent, the club did everything they could to make it work and it payed off. I hope it's going to be the same with O'Riley

I think with Delap, McAtee and Palmer, as the whole package I just don't think they've got it.
I think Palmer has, he’s shown it. Delap from what’s been said needs to try to control his temper, there’s a fine line between being physically strong and being aggressive with anger. McAtee, for me, just didn’t have that strength to make it to be a top midfielder. Decent enough player but wouldn’t have got into a first eleven at City.

According to most that watched them, McAtee was always seen as the better prospect.

I think Cole’s extra height and pace (not lightning but but would leave James trailing) has made quite a bit of difference in the transition to men’s football
James is built more like Foden but Phil is also at least a yard quicker, has better stamina and is a bit more resilient. I think it’s the physical side that James struggles with
