30. My Darkest Prayer - S A Cosby. 5/5.
Rapidly becoming 1 of my favourite crime novelist along with Nesbo and Connelly. A preacher is found murdered in his home and everything unravels from there.

A wee bit late to this party. But whilst I was a vociferous reader my Audible addiction has now gone into overdrive.

It's too easy to sit in front of my PS5 playing Golf/Cricket/Snooker and have someone read me a story.

Finished We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. Got it bought to me by my sister in law and didn't know what to expect.

It's a short story around one of 2 sisters murdering their family

I enjoyed it even if it was little strange

Next read is Trespasses by Louise Kennedy and now a TV show. I wanted to read book before watching it

Worst: Fairy Tale (Stephen King) by some distance

I loved that Shirley Jackson novel . A tiny Gothic masterpiece . Not so keen on Trespasses , I think Bernard MacLaverty covered the same sectarian lust story , with more depth, in Cal all those years ago . Great film too .

I agree about Fairy Tale, very poor from such a good writer.

Best of the year: a toss-up between The Devils by Joe Abercrombie and James Logan's debut, The Silverblood Promise.

Worst: Fortunately, I've not read any terrible books this year but Ray Celestine's Palace of Shadows was well below the standard of his City Blues Quartet.

I'll do my usual full year review at the end of the year and repost it here.

Best (so far) is Titanium Noir by Nick Harkaway. Not written a bad book for me.

Worst would be Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson. Not terrible just dated.

Best for me this year was “Killing Thatcher” by Rory Carroll.

I just couldn’t finish “The Doorman” by Chris Pavone which surprised me as I’ve read a number of his books and generally enjoyed them. I hate giving up on a book so will likely try again in the new year.
