47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

We doing the whole he's back again after couple good games vs shite teams?
Happy he played well in them but we need a lot more consistency from him. That was his first league goals in 2 and a half months and he's playing second striker.

So, at LEAST wait until after today before trawling back through threads in an attempt to farm likes.
Good enough?

Might be a purple patch in terms of scoring, time will tell, but what I cant get my head round is people claiming he’s not playing well this season even when he doesn’t score or assist. He’s been playing deeper and crucial in the build up and pre assists. It’s night and day from last season where he was often anonymous. If you look at MOTM threads you see he’s high up in the votes for practically every game.

Newcastle was a bad one but can’t think of many of other poor performances since he started in September
Very well said.
I missed this post.
Basically Foden on form can do anything on a football pitch. I've said this since he 16 years of age. I stand by that now. Anyone who watched his debut v utd in USA pre season could see what he was capable of. Pep himself said ..it was the best debut he'd ever seen of any player.

His proper first team debut ,he scored with a header in front of the South stand against our hated rivals Spurs,in a critical league title winning match. What more evidence do people want that we have ..Utopia. a true blue ,gifted goal scoring ,midfield diamond.

I've said this from day one. Some laughed....I said he was better than David Silva, who didn't have a right foot...folk laughed again. The truth is... after all these years we are beginning to see how incredible a talent we have in our team.

Some folk just don't understand football, how injuries ,off the field issues, etc can effect a players game...what we,ve seen ,imo ,is a dip in form( perfectly understandable) a return to form..but with the caveat..he plays just to the managers instructions.
I'd love Foden to go out on that pitch and boss the game with freedom to do what ever he wants, entertain us with his bag of tricks. However , Pep has strict instructions,so on Phil's return to form he has played different positions to suit/ help the team.....this season looks like a slow burner....which playing in different positions can do that to a player...

I made the point.earlier this week that Declan rice had prob had a better season to date than Phil.
Folk got confused. I wasn't saying Rice was a better ,just that he had played more consistently this season.Fodens form has been patchy imo due to the. different roles demanded of him, fitting in with new players and getting the balance right.

Foden s class will tell by the end of the season ,once more, because it's pretty clear,as I did say ,that him and cherki ,being both two footed are going to terrorize teams this season as the oppenent will not know which way either player is gonna go..
Thats a real problem for our oppenent, this season is ls gonna be interesting.......
Very Interesting !

Love seeing him in the middle and dropping deep at times. He was born to play there.
I think so too.
Paul Lake and Yaya Toure might just have to take a back seat in my favorite City player of all time
We will see ; )

Amen brother

PFA player of the year Phil is back

Absolute class player, arguably our best alongside Haaland and its jsut a pleasure to see him play

Cherki could bring out even more from him

Was hard watching him struggle last year, but when hes like this hes the best in his position in the league

Just a reminder about Newcastle....he got taken out with that dreadful challenge,a lunge at his foot which the Newcastle defender was off the ground for, early doors.
That tackle would have hurt.really hurt. Affected his performance thereafter
Incidentally...the Newcastle defender got no card, when it should have been a straight red and penalty..
Compare and contrast with the Sunderland defenders challenge on Nunez.....straight red.

Why the discrepancy in ref decisions.
Clear example of ref going with the home team.
Playing away from home is so different to playing at home
Foden got butchered at Newcastle,Englands most talented player but no protection from the refs
Why??

Just enjoying the contrast of this - lots of talk of illness being the reason he dropped off last year and then Pep now says Phil was unwell yesterday and still scored and assisted. Obviously might be different illnesses but to me thats a good sign he’s back. Hope he’s ok for weds

He's back because he's quality. Miserable ****.

I made this point about 8 years ago......got shouted down that he was an attacking midfielder who scores goals.....He definitely has that ability to drop deep centre mid and start moves. He has a very classy intricate short passing game in his locker.

This is why a manger like Pep cannot stop ...tinkering with tactics, to out fox the oppenent, because he knows Phil has the ability to do a range of jobs on the pitch.

A superb midfield player.
I always think back, for some reason, to the goal he scored at wolves away ,an instinctive right foot back heel,... Wow,just wow, away from home ,on your " weaker" foot, you place the ball effortlessly in the corner of the goal away from the keeper.....What have we on our hands here ?
A lad who can score in the blink of an eye.
And also engage in intricate passing movements deep in centre midfield, scores with his head regularly despite his diminutive stature, and places each of those headers accurately because he keeps his eyes open when heading the ball....Brentford away couple seasons back was his best header.....what an all round superb footballer we have.

Already 9th on the All Time Goal Scorers list (with a great chance of finishing 2nd) and If he plays in the next two games, then he'll be on 340 and halfway to Alan Oakes' All Time Appearances Record..

That's absolutely phenomenal especially as we still can't agree over his overall status or even his best position

His best position is 10.
