Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

We are so so so fucking back! Statement win!
Steady, Tiger!

Terrific result, but doesn't a statement win need a statement performance? Half a Madrid team were allowed 17 shots?

Nevertheless, always fantastic to beat them, especially there - just wish it had been the knockout stage :-)

Yeah all fine, if that's what I actually did, which I very clearly didn't. So when Pep decided against starting Rodri or Fernandinho in our first CL final, there were thousands upon thousands of comments lamenting that decision, don't think I've ever seen anybody offer anything resembling a defence of that catastrophic decision, in your mind, does pretty much every single city fan think they know more about football than Pep? We can't win a game of football without doing everything perfectly?
We lost the CL final we won last night so different scenarios. As I say you can critique all you like but if it's nonsense you will get called out on it.

Brilliant result but fuck me, Pep set us up to give us as much of a handicap as possible there. Feel like we win that game by 3/4 and possibly more if we didnt play exactly how they wanted us to play.

If that was the dippers/united/arsenal we would all be suggesting they were trying to throw that game with the way Pep set us up. Bloody awful from Pep but great individual performances got him off the hook. Doku, magnificent. Nico holding the midfield on his own, Nunes and O'Reilly brilliant, Gvardiol rock solid, a number of the less established players really stepping up and leaving their mark tonight. Should give us a lot of confidence going into the Christmas period.

That's a bit naive. You presuppose that the players did everything as Pep wanted them to, but because the tactics were wrong, they struggled.

I think some of the players lacked confidence in the first 30 minutes or so, losing the ball cheaply and making it easy for Real. That's normal, as some don't have experience in games like that or are not in their prime now (Bernie).

You think it's easy to identify whether the problem is in the tactics or the players. It's not. Too many factors are in play.

Agreed - actually it might have been 2 - but if you're winning or losing based upon allowing 17 shots per match, I know which my money's on :-)
Our defence was magnificent, we blocked and headed away to fuck, we were away at madrid and 2 1, we had 8 shots on target they had one, we had by far the better chances, their keeper made some good saves, the ref was bent, at least 4 of their pathetic shots came from attacks set up due to fouls in our players not given. Oh and did I say, we won 2 1 at real fucking madrid

Absolutely nothing wrong with the team and the system that Pep put out last night in my opinion. That's the team and system I wanted and is obviously the best we have at the moment. What would you have done?

I thought we played really well last night BUT there are still too many stupid stray passes that kept giving possession back to RM. The stray pass count is the one thats been bothering me for the last season and a half

Not a fan of Pep?
Maybe, just maybe .. he has a bit more knowledge than you regarding these matters.
Maybe??

TNT coverage was so biased . And that referee. .....Is he Trossard's uncle ? Takes a United fan on You Tube to call it out and give credit where credit's due to The Two Nicos. The absolute state of things ...

Looks like Alice is no longer grounded and her mum's letting her go in the front room again. Supposedly as a rag she can't stand City but is really positive about us, she'd last 5 mins in the match thread!

Last night felt like how we used to when winning a derby.

Tremendous performance and victory, especially because we came back from being a goal behind.

Yes we got the penalty via VAR but the Ref gave us very little else. How many fouls on Doku that weren’t carded, beggared belief?

Up the Blues, onto the next one.

I believe that City got away with some poor periods of play. Pep said similar but they have accentuated the negative. That they do so, confirms that we are on the right track.

Sit Bernardo next to Nico G and not have him lead the press or be on the right wing would be great. Left us exposed a lot by asking Bernardo to do too much. He ran the most out of all our players, which be often does, but he doesn't have the pace to be effective with that running.
