I believe that City got away with some poor periods of play. Pep said similar but they have accentuated the negative. That they do so, confirms that we are on the right track.

That article is 100% accurate depicting the last night game and more broadly, the issues we've been having this season. If the opposing team hits certain level of intensity and aggression our game control literally goes out of window. I've re-watched the game this afternoon and I downgraded our performance 15-20% than I thought of it last night. When pushed, this team just doesn't have the MF. Basically the repeat of Arsenal game, but we scored two goals and didn't concede late equalizer.
And the article makes some positive pointe in the end, if all of The Guardian articles are like this one, I would resume reading their football section.

There’s quite a few on this thread who think winning away at RM was nothing special
Anyone who doesn't think that was an important win and a big step forward for this team is crazy.

Think about where this team was 12 months ago. The blown lead at home to Feynoord. The collapse at PSG. Dusted and uncompetative to Spurs. How fragile the team was anytime a team began to threaten an established lead. Blown lead in the Derby. Blown lead to Brentford.

Injuries on not, that's a hell of a talented RM team playing at the Bernabeu. To show the steel we did to adapt, defend better and win there? That's a sign of a corner being turned. We're a long way from where we were when we won the damned treble, sure. But we're also getting away from the team that a year ago that couldn't be trusted to beat literally anyone.

Mcmanamanamanamanaman was moaning that RM had loads of players injured. I agree they had some injuries, a few more than us. However, RM still had a billion euros worth of talent to choose from. They are the richest club in the world after all. Great result for City. I don't think we played our best, but we still beat the most entitled bunch of wanxers in world football in their back garden with the roof shut.
None more important than the one we are missing- Rodders....

Siya Kolisi is the furthest from a thug you can get - a remarkable man.

His name in the same sentence as the RM arsehole - no no no.....!!!
Not disagreeing mate especially after meeting Kolisi at Durban Airport, the day after South Africa lost to Ireland in 2024.

MY comment was based solely around their similarities beginning and ending with a physical resemblance

I’d love to see Rudiger try and bully Kolisi. Wouldn’t end well for him.

Rudiger gets a lot of respect from players but I think he’s an absolute scum bag.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone say anything negative about Kolisi. I know you weren’t comparing them that way.

That's what he was supposed to be doing, although I agree that it's getting too much for him. But him running around everywhere was also part of the reason we were creating overloads. Rodri for Bernado would stop that problem but we have nobody else that can do that job well.

I'm not sure he was - there's no way Bernardo, of all the team, would deviate from Pep's plan. So he won't have been asked to sit next to Nico G when he was leading the press & had most of his touches on the RW. It's not a slight on him btw, I just think Pep is asking him to do too much and it's leaving us open.

It accentuated the negatives and ignored the positives, and there were positives. It was written to comfort non-City fans imo.

He supports Liverpool

I particularly like the comment, mentioned in other places as well, that it’s only the second time we’ve won at the Bernabau. That’s double the amount the Liverpool have done it and twice more than the rags have managed…

Just watched the game again and would say the following. Nico Gonzalez is turning into one hell of a player. NOR has an incredible future ahead of him and the sky is the limit for Cherki. One sad negative is that Bernardo is clearly not the great player of old and he just can't compete physically any more. Finally, Nunes is making great strides at full back and love his fearless runs forward which send our opponents into panic.

If we could somehow get Elliot Anderson in January and sit him next to Nico G and allow Bernardo to be more of a closing game player with his leadership, I genuinely think we can win the CL.

Relying on just Nico G though and having to start Bernardo in all the big games and I think we will go far but ultimately get unstuck against a really good team.

It's Clement Turpin, who I do think is one of the best refs in Europe.
Here in France, we call him "Mr. Penalty." He blows his whistle for a penalty at the slightest contact in the box, and he hates being overruled by VAR. I think he's the referee who awards the most penalties in Europe.

He's the one who gave us a penalty and Bayern a penalty in Munich during the second leg of the 2023 Champions League quarter-finals.

We have to be careful.
True to form ^^

After just two minutes of play, he rushed to award a penalty to Vinicius.

Luckily, he didn't see Ascensio dive-in; he surely would have awarded a penalty, and even if VAR had called him over, he wouldn't have changed his mind.
