Ah, the sheer beauty of that top being worn by King Col and Franny. My first kit. I think I even got the shorts and socks. No name. No badge. No sponsors. No need. But it is one team, and one team only.
By the way, why does Franny always look as though he's got a big male accoutrement in those sixties shorts? Not the first time I've noticed it.

The original is still with us now but it's condition and treatment beggars belief of which I was recently sent a picture.

The less said the better as my Grandad used to say !!

It's not strictly the original though, it's a remake by mosaic artist Mark Kennedy using pieces from the 2 originals at Maine Road. People were meant to think it was carefully lifted off the wall in one piece... Anything but.

I was at Maine Road the day he was hacking away at the mosaic with a powered drill, and was in shock and disgusted that this is what they were doing. I got given a few pieces, as did someone else passing, probably to try and quieten us up about how bad it was being done.

Apparently city were scared it would get hacked away if left there for the final match, so wanted to remove them. Problem was it was a lot harder to remove than they thought, and pretty much ruined it where he hardly had any good pieces to reuse.

Which is why when the stadium opened in 2003 there was a supposed "original" in the memorial garden, that was in fact newly made from pieces, and smaller. It got badly damaged though from moss and people putting ashes on it. so it was eventually removed "to be repaired and put somewhere more prominent" and was never seen again!!!! And that is what city shirts will have been privileged to have seen, where is it btw?I

The one that a poster took a picture of and posted on the previous page is a tiny all in one photo/poster/piece they stuck down in the newly designed garden a few years back, to confuse people who aren't Maine Road statto saddos like myself! ;)

Always loved the fact that,as a City mad teenager,desperately trying to get any information about the club,from out of town,back in the day......when I noticed that all the new management team were called John ,...this obviously was some sort of lucky sign that we were gonna be a good team..John Bond John Benson and John Sainty just rolled off the tounge.....it all fitted,it was great !
Then within days of the 3 Johns arriving ....we signed 3 players,out of nowhere,Tommy Hutchinson Gerry Gow,and Bobby Macc,..sounds daft but as a young fan ,reading newspaper reports of these 3 signings ,I was buzzing! I loved wingers, so to sign the aggressive looking Scottish winger from Coventry,along with Bobby Macc and another aggressive looking player called Gerry Gow..from Bristol City....I just instantly knew we were going be ok... ridiculous logic but I felt the buzz of those signings in Nottingham,couldn't wait to see them play , I knew hutch was an out and out high stepping left winger,..it was so exciting !!
3 Johns,3 new signings,sorted- and of course the season was revamped as we strode up the league,made the semi finals of the league cup ,and the final of the fa cup .......what a manic double cup run that was.....
That 80/81 season will live long in the memory.
John Bond was basically God in my eyes.City started winning again!!

And "kids and old people" ffs!!! Was me and Kevin Cummins the few min I was there, tho I guess others may have grabbed thru the day We were offered!

I loved that seasons.I was 10. It felt so good.I know we never won owt but it was a great and I still feel it now.
