4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

I agree overall he made some good runs that either dragged markers or were unnoticed.

I think for me, it's kinda sad that's what we might be potentially molding him into, as another 10/second striker type.

It doesnt feel like we need more of those, I was and still am kind of hoping he can truly be more of an 8 and help deeper with build up.

His physicality is obviously a big problem currently. My hope is its just him not yet accustomed to the league yet but it might just be who he is, and maybe he has to just be a 10 for us.

And if that's true, he is purely a backup then, because id much rather a Doku, Savinho or Bobb as an inverted winger to let Foden be the 10, since he is better.
I think he is a lot like Gundogan. Who was never a tough hard tackling type. But was very intelligent, made great runs, was amazing in the press ( especially getting into pressure lanes to intercept the ball).

They have a lot of similar technical and tactical traits. Gundo too didn't become a big time scorer until late in his career here.

I see a similar trajectory for TJ. Like you, i saw him as the bridge between Nico/Rodri at DM and Phil at AM. But if Rodri gets back soon, thats probably Rodri's position. So really, he is an alround CM just like early Gundogan was.

Someone i expect will develop a penchant for arriving into the box to score critical goals and be very good at the tactical requirements of pressing. Something we currently struggle with.

In short, he is Gundogan on his way to Mr. Whippley. :)

I don't see the Gundogan comparison yet until he becomes vital in our build up like Gundogan.

Foden has been that guy for us this season.

He makes good runs, gets into good positions. I think he needs a few more goals to get his confidence up and then he’ll settle. Was hoping his Fulham one would help. Theres a player in there for sure

Go back and watch the Foden goal. The run by Reijnders forces Richards back and creates the space for the shot. He understands where to be and when to move. He has some very good touches at times that haven't come off perfectly. I know we want more output from him. And he's just got to get the finishing and when to final pass sorted. But he's a talent player that should get better with Pep.

anyone watched him play for holland

Yes. My son is big fan of Dutch. He's influential for them. You can see the quality. Agree on some comments about speed and physicality of game being an adjustment.

I thought his performance was similar to Khusanov's—bad at first, and concerningly so—but he really turned it around as it went on.

I thought he was absolute garbage again. It’s these types of games where he has a real chance to turn things around. Against a really shite Brentford side, go out there and put down a marker. You wouldn’t have even known he was on the pitch for most of the game.
I disagree completely, thought he was very good in the first half and played some superb through balls to the wingers, in the second half I was ready to call him Casper the ghost again but he created that second goal with another good through ball and made another good play afterwards, to say he was "absolute garbage" is ludicrous imo.

Nah

Feels like we’re playing with 10.5 men sometimes with him out there because he goes through periods of not really contributing anything on or off the ball.

But I feel like he’s just going to need 40 games to find his feet and settle in and we just have to eat these next 10 games or so before a real player emerges.

It’s frustrating because we looked so dangerous with Cherki and Foden linking up, every time Brentford swarmed around one they’d get the ball to the other who had some space, and I kept thinking if our third attacking midfielder was this dangerous and linking up with the other two we’d be unplayable.

It’s all about opinions but I thought he was terrible in the 1st half. It then got even worse after HT when as you say, he did his usual disappearing act, until he passed to Sav. He gets some credit for the pass but it was hardly anything out of the ordinary.

I knew very little of him when we signed him, he gave me real hope after the Wolves game and he’s disappointed and infuriated me ever since.

Again I disagree about the first half, if we had wingers who could deliver some end product we would've scored two goals from his passes.

stick to you're guns lad

Some good bits and pieces but he’s so weak and anonymous at times

He can’t play away at Forrest or Sunderland. Should be ok if needed at home to West Ham, though

That was better.

Still room for improvement but have to give him time, and with Marmoush, Doku and Bobb out, he is gonna play alot.

He might just need to rack up the minutes.

Don't see it with this guy

I know its a cliche but sometimes you get these players that just aren't suited to the speed of the English game, think this is one of those cases

Some little bits here and there but hes just so incredibly weak.... like hes over 6ft and he may be one of the weakest players ive seen play for us

He is barely noticeable, and not in a good Rodri like way hes just looking lost. He is so passive and his "tackles" are so half hearted, hes afraid to get hurt

I dunno, there are great players whove managed to "make it work" but hes not an Ozil where he has magic in his feet, hes jsut alright

Maybe im wrong, I normally back the players who've been cast off in their first seasons like Nunes/Savinho/Doku etc. but this is a 27 year old who should be in his prime and he just doesnt look like hes made for this style
