Marc Guehi | Leading target for City (p28)

A bit of a kick in the teeth from Ake if true. Club has persevered with him and given him the opportunity to win the lot, despite him playing one game and then being injured for weeks. All the best to him
Distinctly remember a training video pre CWC where Pep was telling him to smile when he was complaining about the tournament.

No place in this team for players who don’t want to fight for a place or to keep fit. I just don’t think he has the hunger any more.
Always liked him as a player though, was great for a good while, a big part of our best ever team and do wish him the best on departure.

Would be a great move for Nathan to go to palace and Guehi in with Stones situation with equally be as good!

Not sure I see the sense in swapping Ake for Guehi. Both home grown, doesn't change anything there. Ake knows the club, the system, the players etc. Well oiled rather than coming in midway through the season. Guehi may need time to settle, would also have an expectation to play or start.

Adding Guehi straight up though, with Stones' injury issues with a view he will leave in the summer, and Ake may at that point too, that is another thing. Particularly as we have two spaces in the squad for at least one HG player.

Assuming there is anything in it, and it isn't all done to Liverpool behind the scenes and this is just media headline generating.

@tolmie's hairdoo seems to think there is something in it as well mate?

It’s debatable if Guehi is as good as Ake was. However, I don’t think it’s a debate whether or not Guehi is better now. If Guehi can move above walking pace, he already has a distinct advantage over Ake.

Ake has proven great value for us. Hes done a stand-up job but he’s finished. Hes either injured or looks injured and has been this way for a couple of seasons now.

Do the deal.

The sense is probably that we’d be swapping someone who looks finished for someone who looks very good

Agreed, Ake is treacle running now and Stones is fucked! If Ake can go to Palace and maybe Bobb with a buy back then do it imo.

Correct. We should wait until January.

I've not seen anything from him apart from the Newcastle goal to suggest he's going to be good enough for us. The concern is that the Norwegian manager had a pop at him about his attitude which could be a personality clash on its own, but he looks out of favour with Pep as well.

Plus Cherki is younger than him.

If there is, I still don’t see the sense in it in place of Ake, rather than as an addition.

Unless Ake himself wants to leave and that's the starting and driving point here.

I seen that someone posted this morning that Tolmie had tweeted this morning that Ake has spoken to Pep about leaving so he can get picked for the world cup.

Others have said Ake is open to leaving as he wants game time before the World Cup.

If Palace can use Guehi who is leaving on a free unless sold in January for Boey, Ake and Bobb that’s good business for them.

He's moved to twitter where he rants regularly about immigrants and Muslims.
I had more fall outs with him than any other Mod and twice he got me banned due to my stupidity at the time in arguing with him. Not sad one iota at seeing him leave this site and just in case he takes a look on here now and again then can I say a big Fuck Off from myself.

I know logically this is a very good move. With stones and Ake both unreliable fitness wise and likely out the door in the summer replacing them with a consistent performing homegrown centre back seems ideal.

However, I can’t help feeling it kills the opportunities for the 3 young centre backs we signed in Jan, of which I feel all are exciting prospects in their own way. Khusanov is already struggling for the game time he needs and I don’t see Reis wanting to come back to sit on the bench. Bah’s loan hasn’t got well enough so far anyway so would expect a loan again for him regardless.

I guess that’s the ruthlessness of being a team wanting to challenge for everything.

I think we can blame Koeman for Ake looking to leave. Koeman has said that if Ake wants to play at the World Cup he will need to be playing at club

“We’ve talked about it. Something has to change,” said Koeman when explaining Ake’s inclusion in his latest squad despite the 30-year-old’s lack of minutes at the Etihad Stadium.

“You can’t hardly play and still be part of a national team. Match practice is part of that,” Koeman added”
