Brentford (H) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

Good performance from a makeshift team, and a great result. No accolades are high enough for that strike by Cherki for the 1st goal - he's looking more and more like the gem we all hoped he'd be. Savinho had a confidence builder, and we played some great stuff in tight areas - in what were fuckin''orrible conditions.

6 out of 6 wins and West Ham to come so keep it up you blue beauties and make it a blue Christmas for us all.

Happy days.

One thing I'll say about Hinchcliffe: he's like this every time commentates, it's not just City

Whenever there's a chance / incident, he nearly always chooses to criticise what a player did wrong rather than what they did right, and he always knows what they should have done instead

He's remarkably consistent with the negativity

He was certainly lucky. Had an awful first half. Looked better in the second half. He’s a long way from first team ready at the moment. Has a big second half of the season or he may be on his way out.
Tend to agree. We all know if that was the PL then Khusanov would have been off - combination of the call probably being a 50/50 but with the City premium it adds up to a 100% red.
Fair dos the lad played great second half. But he really has to get rid of the rashness.
As for myself I managed to utter something I didn't think possible 12 months ago - "good move Pep to bring Nunes on for his quality and experience".
Well done tonight blues

Job done by the lads, on a wet cold windy night ?

Brentford were poor, I thought they would fancy their chances tonight against a much-changed City line-up
Khusanov and Ake were solid, but Khusanov doesn't need to fly in because he's got pace to recover and did well after an early yellow card. Cherki is only going to get better. I think the levels he can reach are on the KDB David Silva levels

doesn't really matter about the draw and both ties are going to be tasty

He’s only 21, how many 21 year olds are staring at centre half week in week out in the prem.

He needs to be patient and so do the fans.
I fully accept that.
We are a top level elite club though. To be first team ready here a player needs to be real quality. The odd mistake, such as Nico O v R Madrid is expected and inevitable at that age.
I would like the lad to succeed as much as any other Blue but I’m not sure he will. Just my opinion.

Hinchcliffe is a thundercunt

That is all
Serious question, does anyone know why he seems to have such a downer on us? I’ve thought it for years. Did he leave us on a sour note? Cannot remember anything but Jesus he is unreal. How many times did he bring up the non red for Kush?

Job done against a shit and disinterested Brentford side.

Much sterner tests to come.
I'm surprised by how disinterested they seemed considering they will be fine in the league and this was a decent change to win something, we didn't really get out of third gear and didn't need to.

Weirdly that was possibly the most encouraging performance of the season.....for a number of reasons,

Despite the changes we looked very fluid and connected as a team in all areas...the passing and ball retention as well as winning the ball back was a lot closer to our best teams of the last few seasons....and again despite the changes

On an individual basis as well there was some real noteables moments

1. Sav - Ive been hugely critical of him - but it looks like something has clicked with him (probably from his recent meetings with Pep) - he is putting effort in and although the goal was lucky he made it by driving at the defender postively and more importantly aggressively...something we havent seen a lot from him...he looks motivated and that wil only lead to more improvement.

2. Nunes coming on in midfield...I know he wont ever play there long term BUT it shows that Pep thinks he can do a job in there at times. ......he has learnt to defend from the fullback position and I wonder if this has helped his ability to play in midfield a bit more for Pep

3. Nico OReilly - one or two moments of absolute class in retaining possession fullback (especially when he briefly changed to right back)

4. Khusonov - one rash challenge which could have got him a red but the yellow was possibly just about right as the cover was there - but after that his ability to cover inbehind and his reading of the game is great....Ake also played well and he might be off but he has been a fantastic servant.

There was the obvious stuff with Nico G, Cherki and Foden that everyone can see as well

Hinchcliffe extracts more energy from the universe than a black hole. Miserable ****.

im pretty certain whatever the issue is, that its considerably more important in his head than anyone else's. Narcisstics have that as a common problem.

What i'd say about Khusonov is that he's got huge potential, was definateley ring rusty in the first half and maybe got a bit of luck in dodging the red, but he showed real character and stuck to his task well in the 2nd half.

The enforced Bobb substitution, bringing on Phil changed the game

AI explained Hinchcliffe’s perceived hatred of City ….

Andy Hinchcliffe doesn't seem to "hate"
Man City; rather, his past connections involved being sold by Man City manager Howard Kendall, and then later sold byKendall at Everton, leading to a slightly awkward past professional relationship with Kendall, but no strong signs of bitterness towards the club itself, as he moved on to other successful stints like with Sheffield Wednesday.
Here's a breakdown:
  • Man City Connection: Hinchcliffe was a player for Manchester City early in his career.
  • Howard Kendall Factor: He was sold by manager Howard Kendall at Man City, then ended up playing for Kendall again at Everton, who then sold him again.
  • No Indicated Bitterness: Despite these managerial shifts, interviews suggest he moved on without significant bitterness towards Man City, focusing more on his subsequent career at clubs like Sheffield Wednesday.
So, while he had dealings with the club and manager Kendall, there's no evidence of a deep-seated "hate" for Manchester City as an institution.

Basically he’s just a **** of a man

Many years ago my mate who was a painter / decorator was on a job at Platt Lane

He said most of the players were ignorant but Hinchcliffe was by far the worst

The best were Kendal and Clive Allen
