Bondi terror attack

Yep. Virtually everyone I know and on this forum thinks the only answer is a two state solution. Which is reasonable. I'm pointing out, rather too forcibly perhaps, that Hamas, with their aim of the total destruction of Israel and seemingly Jews anywhere, are not freedom fighters to be admired but a vile right wing nationalist militia who believe that killing their particular version of "invaders" is legitimate. Most of us believe that vile right wing nationalist with murderous intent should not be legitimised. That applies to Hamas too, no difference, vile fuckers with vile beliefs. Israel and Palestine both need to grow up, compromise and agree borders.
I don't like the term Israel and Palestine tbh when discussing what's happening in Gaza. I prefer Israeli government and its supporters and Hamas and its supporters.

If people abroad looked at our polls and routinely called us all far right brits we would be rightly peeved.

Possibly. For me I would discern right wing from far right wing (and indeed far left wing) with the propensity of that movement to use violence, intimidation or even killing to achieve their aims and to maintain their power. So I think Reform are Right Wing but currently not Far Right. However I could be naive or just not learning the lessons from history! If I'm honest I don't pay much attention to Reform I think the Tories will make a comeback.

The actual term isn't that important but the point is how representative are Netanyahu and his party and Hamas to the general Israeli and Palestinian population? The last Palestinian election was 2006 and Netanyahu got just over 20% back in 2022. I don't know the make up of the other parties but he is making the decisions.
It would be like calling all Americans fucking idiots, its a little unfair on those suffering from the effects of Trump. Half the population would like him gone.
I think defending people in other parts of the world based solely on their religion or the country they live in needs to stop. There is no sense in it. You should defend or denounce based on the action and the action only.

Now that is very deep (must be all that time in the cooler). One of the forum, Vic, has twice answered my comments with the line "So might is right?" I've never replied. Now clearly, might is not right but might does rule the world. I do not see how that will ever change. As far as I can see, throughout history, every single country that has become powerful has tried to expand it's borders. Every single one. Even little Belgium and Holland had empires. Now the USA wants Canada and Greenland, China wants Taiwan, Russia wants Ukraine. We've already got the UN (pretty pointless but pays good pensions) and NATO (seemingly all mouth and no action but pays good pensions). So the world has tried to come up with ways to control the badun's but clearly unless we are directly attacked ourselves we tend to do nothing. Adding nothing to anything does not change anything one bit. Anything + 0 = Anything. I think you are right, we should judge purely on actions but ultimately, without taking action ourselves, we are just moving around bullshit.

Its quite hard to find a country that isnt a badun tbh, we're just left with people i guess.

Yes, and for the people to democratically reject these 'he-men' politicians.
And for 8bn global consumers to reject the brands and products of nations that supply the weaponry or funds.
And for those who oppose this ongoing exchange of violence and retribution to march side by side, regardless of religion, in a show of togetherness.
These politicians thrive on division, so it is time that people stood together.

Well, some of us thought that empires and colonies were the stuff of history, and that we had mechanisms to decide international disputes without resorting to "might is right" (including self-determination). It turns out it was a vain hope, and self-determination is OK until someone disputes the boundaries within which a people may do the determining. Even democracy turns out to be crap.

I had hoped this thread could be confined to expressing sympathy, and outrage, after the Bondi beach attacks. Another vain hope. There's probably little to be said about the wider issues that haven't been said in the "Middle East" thread. But within the context of this thread, and your post, you perhaps need to say what are the borders of Eretz Israel.

Well, just when you think that you can pop into a thread to send your best wishes, it turns into a Middle East thread.

Still unbelievable the scenes that we seen, and what we now see of those that have lost their life.

So sad.
