West Ham United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Any theories as to why our second half performances are usually noticeably worse than the first.
Is it us that change or our opponents that nullify the first half advantage or change for change sake by Pep?

I think he probably asks the team to hold back and just keep the ball. It's a long ol' season

Good win. I thought we would play them off the park but it wasnt to be. Our team looked jaded or below their very best, so 3-0 and control of the match is a good result.

My motm was probably Nunes or Donnaruma.
We didn't look jaded, it's about not using more energy than you have to. Arsenal look fantastic every season because of their high intensity play but they always run out of steam in the run in, the crucial stage of the season when you can't afford to slip up and by the look of things they haven't figured out out yet. We have.

Ok, we didnt try that much then? Not sure what you are saying but for me we should have could have had 4 or 5 goals instead of 3.

I agree but we have nearly come a cropper a number of times already this season by not killing teams off.. I guess they need to find the balance between the two.

If you are talking about recent games perhaps when a team is 2 down, they change and become more dangerous.

If you listen to Peps interview after the game yesterday you will get a good idea of his opinion.

Yes I suppose the Leeds game was an example, they simply had nothing to lose and changed with effect.
My neighbour gives us credit for changing the Leeds style from when they played us.

I was moaning at 'em in the first half for walking around too much. We had space all over the pitch and could (should) have had a bagfull before the break.
Still, we pissed the game and gave them no chance so, hey-ho.
Walking in a City wonderland...

Sometimes a Coach will stumble on a system which proves successful.
The stats for Leeds are incredible from the moment they came out for that 2nd half.
All about set pieces, and getting numbers in the area.

No issues at all at not being top at Christmas. I bet there will be a bucket load of stats coming out now about how many teams have been top at Christmas and how many of them win the league. Probably been posted on here and I've not seen it.

Lots of fixtures to go. We'll see how we're getting on soon as I believe we've got some tough games coming up - I believe our next 4 away games are Forest, Sunderland, Rags and Spuds.
Pretty sure it is common for the team that is top at Xmas of NY to win the league but City have been an exception to that rule more often than not (?).

I think we are improving and Pep clearly expects us to improve more so that is cause for optimism.

Actually - according to the BBC News app this morning - we're 3 for 3!Screenshot_20251221-121036.png

Cherki seems to be rubbing off on the other players. I thought Pep told Cherki to stop doing the flicks but now I am seeing Foden doing it too.

Pretty sure Pep has not told Cherki to stop doing flicks but he will bollock him if he does a flick or soemthing that does not come off when he could have found a team mate with a simple pass. He will want him to be effective and absolutely won’t want him to showboat, but he will not stop him being creative or taking risks at the right times - all comes down to excellent decision making.

A very skilful player but we have Cherki. Cherki has changed City. You are now doomed if you come to City and park the bus. He is as inventive as KDB but in a completely different way. A better comparison is to Ali Bernarbia or Gio KInkladze. A little wizard with a black beard.
Edward Teach?
