I don't understand this thinking at all.

For example, I had a clear preference that Everton would beat Arsenal yesterday. However, if you had asked me whether I thought it was likely to happen I would have said no. Would that make me pro Arsenal?

Even though I might want something to happen I'm capable of having an open mind. So I look at the league table, look at the recent form of both teams, remove the emotion and make a judgement based on the relative strength of the two sides.

If I was sat with a group of City fans before the game arguing that Everton were going to win, I'd be saying sorry guys you're letting your bias cloud your perception. Wouldn't make me popular but also wouldn't make me wrong.

We can all be guilty of confirmation bias on any (and certainly this) subject, myself included, but you’ve been as culpable as anyone on this thread, especially in the early days of the war. So I’m not sure I agree with your strident assertion of being open minded, certainly not based on the evidence of this thread.

I know who he was. And he’s no fool. He’s a bright bloke. And we all make shit calls. Twenty odd years go I stridently predicted that no one would ever use the internet on their phone ffs!

But he did boast aboit his supreme objectivity, and think that needed challenging, just like I’d expect to be if I made such a claim.
