7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

We literally played 4222 last season and it salvaged us the champions league spot.

Although it was more used when Haaland went injured, Pep played Marmoush LF and any of Savinho/Bobb/McAtee as RF.

I suppose he may not think Haaland is "dribbly" enough in this false striker system that uses wingers instead but I think it could work.

At the same time, it may not be necessary, last game Foden and Cherki were on the pitch and yet Reijnders played as the 10 but more of a second striker and drifted all across.

That also perfectly suits Marmoush.
 
If Semenyo does come in, I think that's the writing on the wall for Omar.

It's going to be Doku and Semenyo on the left, Cherki and Foden at the 10, with Cherki taking time on the right as well. Unless we plan on moving him out right, where I'm not even sure he could play, and Doku seemingly plays well on the right with Belgium, in addition to Bobb and Savinho, so unless one of those two is leaving in January, I think he is the odd man out.

I would point out that my assessment of Haaland in those posts was based mainly on his performances at the end of last season, and Pep's failure to actually play to his strengths.

Haaland 25/26 season is a completely different player compared to Haaland 24/25 imo. The same applies to Pep's tactics/systems over the two seasons.

We're a far better team this season than last. Obviously, Marmoush has little or nithing to do with that, and I still believe that he's nowhere near good enough for elite football. I certainly don't think he fits anywhere in Pep's current system.

As always, just my opinion. Sometimes right, sometimes wrong.

Semenyo isn’t as good as Doku, Marmoush, Cheki or Savinho. Unless Pep lets Savinho go I can’t see us wasting money on Semenyo.

He would fit playing alongside Haaland. Or Pep could find a different system to work to his strengths, as he did Haaland.

The opportunity with the release clause has come up in this transfer window.
By next summer, Pep and Viana will know who to let go and also what players may want to go.

Firstly, why change what is becoming a very strong 'winning' system and secondly, if you do cgange it, who are you going to drop to shoehorn Marmoush into the team?

Doku? Cherki? Foden?

(Please don't say 'rotate', that's just nonsense)
 
I know there might be speculation with the Semenyo news but, unless he specifically hands in a transfer request, I would not sell Marmoush.
